These should come in handy in tight places where ratchet head thickness and socket height clearance is minimal.

It looks like they have a thin profile, they could come in handy. Nice gift!

Sad,isn't it?
Craftsman hand tools were US made and I believe some sets still are and are better quality.

I have a similar, but non-universal set ... also made in China. They appear to be well made and nicely polished. I did have a quality issue with the first set I bought, which I exchanged because the 3/8" 18mm socket had a slight burr on it and would not seat properly in the handle. I made sure that every socket seated properly before leaving the store. The pass-through feature with 6pt sockets is what sold me; this really came in handy for installing the sway bar end links on my Odyssey van.

I used the ratchet and the 14mm socket on the exhaust clamps this afternoon:

Instead of having to get up off the garage floor to fetch a deep socket, I had my SO run into the house and get me the gift she gave me for Xmas. Worked very nicely.

The ratchet was smooth. Not real "notchy" like some of the real cheap ratchets I've bought at HF (like the palm ratchets that they sell). The ratchet also felt like a fine pitch ratchet. I tried to count the teeth, but I kept losing my reference point.

I thought the direction toggle was plastic; it's not. I scraped the finish off of it when I slid it over to the other side of the car.

The opposite side of the ratchet in back of the toggle does have a plastic cover.

All in all, a nice set of tools. I can't comment on the durability of the finish on the sockets. Only time will tell.

I purchased a big set of these under the GearWrench brand at a vendor open-house at a Fastenal store. The Danaher Tool Group sales rep (this was pre-Apex) was handing out coupons for huge discounts--I think I got their biggest set for $45.

I rarely use them, but when I do, they really save my bacon. That said, I do not trust the ratchet handles for high torque.
