I bought a different brand cheapo jack like once and was never happy with it. The 3 ton jack is WELL worth the price.
Quick follow-up: Sears had a post-Christmas sale on the 3-ton jack, 3-ton stands, and a creeper for $100. Not a bad deal.
I purchased it, and it seems to be a pretty good deal. Stands look almost identical to other 3-ton stands available in various auto-related stores, and the jack appears to be pretty beefy. Only downside so far is the two-piece handle, which has a bit of wobble at the joint, but that's a minor issue and doesn't affect lifting.
So far, it's made easy work of lifting (and in the case of the stands, safely holding aloft) several vehicles that I and a few friends have done work on.
Granted, I've had it for a bit less than a month, but it seems to be holding up reasonably well even after a dozen or two up-down cycles. I figured it'd be a good thing to test it, so I lifted and lowered my Camry's front end about eight times just to see if there was any problems that would manifest themselves early. (If there are going to be any problems, I'd like to find out within the one-year warranty period.) So far, so good.
