Just bought a Craftsman 27cc 2-stroke string trimmer. So far, it seems great. It is made in Canada, and the entire thing feels high quality, with the possible expception of the guard, which feels a little low qual plastic, but the rest is great. It starts no later than the 3rd pull when cold, and always first pull warm, and it barely needs any effort because of the (so far) excellent incredi-pull. By far the smoothest running 2-stroke I've ever used, it just purrs. (running it on 40:1 ratio with Gulf TCW-3 2s oil. Pics coming soon. For $99, can't be beat. It is one of those ones that you can buy attatchments for, such as hedge trimmer, blower, chain saw attatchment... You get the idea. Time will tell for reliability.

I too just got the same 27cc Craftsman trimmer this past weekend. Our Sears had a 1 day sale and I got it for $79 - $5 coupon = $74. The next day it was back up to $99. The incredi-pull system is fantastic.

I also use a 40:1 ratio using Poulan Synthetic 2cycle oil. It make a lovely bright blue Kool-aid color gas, which is especially visible because the tank on the trimmer is clear. I feel like I'm running the thing on Berry Blast Punch. My dad's mixture always looked very dark. He never use synthetic oil though.

Yeah, no smoke at all, no oily residue on the exhaust... Gulfpride TCW-3 2 stroke oil here, it's not synthetic, but it's working well. aCtually I didn't have a gas can, so I filled the tank on the trimmer, and added a capful of the oil to the tank, and it's working great. Will do it more precisely in the future though of course. (Had it for about a week and used it 3 of those days to clean up the yard and everything)

I guess people use all kinds of different ratios even though it recommends 40:1. I am getting the impression that as long as your ratio is in the ball park, you'll be okay. The jug of oil I have comes with a cup on the top that lets you measure out 3.2oz of oil. I know I'm not spot on either with the ratio. Again, I get the impression that as long as I am close, no worries.

I have to say, I was most impressed that it is made in Canada, instead of China, or mexico or something. Glad to see that stuff is still made here and up in canuck country.

It is a Poulan. Quality appears on the up swing since they were purchased by Husqvarna. If you have a carb tool to beat the EPA, I always recommend a 1/8 or so tweek rich (out) on the high to keep the ring from siezing. You want a little growl at WOT. If no tool leave it alone under warranty.

One thing everybody fails to give Sears credit for is parts availability. The average joe can go to the Sears website and buy parts for 15 year old blowers and trimmers.

congrats and enjoy.

Assembled in Canada...

Last night I went to adjust a Yardman whacker with my handy little tool from Ebay. It DIDN'T WORK! Had to fall back on the old reliable...using my Dremmel tool to score slots in the screw heads for a flat head screw driver. Mission accomplished...runs like a champ. The screws were not splined. They had a hole in the top that was off center. Time to look for a new tool!

The web says AYP which is now a part of Husqvarna. I notice that Snapper is pretty prevalent at our local Sears. They have Snapper mowers and a Sears rear engine that looks just like a Snapper only green.

Agreed my brother recently rebuilt a old Craftsman string trimmer and leaf blower both over 10 years old. The online Sears parts website was incredible, as far as part availability

Why do they keep making me buy different EPA defeating tools on Ebay? Another $10 to Randy's small engines!

There are 3 different needle styles out there I know of, this sounds like a 4th.

I just took off the orange line that came on the trimmer. It was .95 round line with a bit of a twist in it. Strong line, didn't break once.

I put on some red "pulverizer" .95 line. This stuff has a triangle shape to it which makes 3 sharp edges on the line. This stuff is nasty and cuts very easily. Much better than the line that was on it and also is extremely strong. I've used the trimmer 4 or 5 times no and haven't broken an inch of line yet.

The only down side of the pulverizer line is the excessive wind noise it makes. You definitely need ear protection with this line. Otherwise you're going deaf.
