Even though you are far from an authorized repair contractor, companies will go to length to honor their warranty. You may be surprised.
25 years ago I purchased a window mounted air conditioner. Consumer Reports said to get a specific Panasonic model. I couldn't find it locally, but found it online and ordered it. Within a couple months of use, it was clear the thermostat was not working correctly so I called their customer service. They took my info and the Panasonic rep called me a couple days later and said they were going to have a person out, but to be patient, it would take a week as they had no Panasonic appliance contractors in the pacific northwest region. They called and paid an independant to fix my AC unit and overnighted him the thermostat. He called and came out for the 10 minute swap and was on his way.
