Ate they the same? Our regional NAPA has the Vietnam made filters. Is that the same supplier as the CQ premium? Need to stock up and didn't know if one supplier is better to either of the house brands.

Looking for a well-made filter with better than rock catcher micron ratings.

They should be very close in build if they are all Asian factories so I wouldn't sweat it.

I’ve lucked across some good deals on PGI filters on Ebay. Liquidation lots mostly. I am careful to buy from an established seller with simple return procedures. No problems yet. RockAuto still has quite a few CQ reds.

I think It varies with SKU. Some of the Gold are PGI now, but it's not all of them as far as I know.

Same with Mobil 1-- some of them are PGI, but not all.
Are the PGI made ones the shrink wrapped end with red silicone filter-to-block seal? I assume Mann/Hummel (wix) is the alternate supplier?

PGI does the partial shrink wrap, that's a pretty solid clue that it's PGI-made as I don't know of any US-market filters made by someone else that have the same partial shrink wrap.

And many do have the red silicone gasket.

Wix has not been the NAPA filter supplier since about 2022. NAPA fired M&H after COVID. Many of the SKUs are PGI now, but a couple are I believe are with other vendors.

not technically made by premium guard rather highline warren with 99% @ 30um vs PGI 99% @ 20um.
Yep, there's no connection between Highline Warren and Premium Guard Inc (PGI) ... two separate companies. The new Mobil 1 filters looks the same and are also made in Asia (could even be made in some of the same factories in Asia), but through Highline Warren instead of PGI.

Mobil 1 filters are South Korean made. Appear to be very well made but with slightly coarser filter medium at 30ų. I bought one to look at. Ive just been caught in the rabbit hole of lowest micron rating....thanks to BITOG and the OG Ultras. Looking for something to move to now that my stock of Ultras has been depleted. I will likely buy 20 filters for my various applications and do a C&P of at least one new one. I always cut open used filters for inspection.

best efficiency off the shelf right now is the carquest premium/microgard select. you can do better with a donaldson but have very few passenger vehicle sized filters.

Yes, I emailed Donaldson about any availability of M20x1.5 threaded filters with their synthetic media. After scouring their "filter attributes" section and finding they dont offer anything. I believe its only ⅞"/M22 and larger filters. Thats medium duty and up size stuff.

I priced out carquest vs napa gold and can get the carquest filters cheaper so I did a little stock order for the personal fleet. I think they are the same though at least for my applications

I don't trust NAPA Gold. They change filter suppliers with the seasons.

I buy the MicroGuard Select / Premium Guard.
This is what i suspected. Om going to price out different ones, do a C&P and then buy a case. I hate having to do this stuff and not having companies with quality products which are consistent (Fram, Wix, etc.)

Why do you need to cut any of them open ? If you are getting the Napa just look for an Asian make on the filter and then buy a case of those. As far as the Carquest .. same thing and if you want to see way too much proof you just check these three pages of threads below:

Carquest Premium
