Yes, and a i5-750 is an LGA1156 chip.
Either way I'm [censored] [censored]. $266 and nothing works but the psu, which is [censored].
I know how you feel. I have about $2000 in this machine. When I put it together and it did nothing but make noise, I was [censored].

It was a simulated i5-750.
They didn't have an i5-750 on hand for the comparison, so they took an i7-920, turned off the hyperthreading, and set it to run only dual-channel RAM.

When the article was written (8/13/2009), the Lynnfield processors hadn't been released. Tom's had the specs for the i5-750, but didn't have an actual processor and wanted to see how it would compare to the Phenom, so they tweaked a i7-920 to i5-750 specs.

Ah, that makes sense.
It blows my mind how well it sucks the proverbial doors off the AMD. At a decent clock speed disadvantage as well.

I dunno I happen to think even the AII X4's are really good. the Propus core 620's are really cheap, and benchmark fairly well. I actually would love to get one to experiment with.
But yeah PhenomII is a good CPU especially for a budget gaming rig.

Given the price of the i5, and how it performs against the Phenom series, I would say that it is a better bang for the buck.
My new mobo and cpu are on its way. Hopefully these won't [censored] up. Trying to decide on a new video card now.
Well I finally got my new parts back tonight from Newegg. This thing is SMOKIN now. I'm VERY satisfied with the AMD Quad.

Yeah it has onboard video and HDMI but I upgraded my video card from my old ATI Radeon HD 2600XT to a HD 5770. I might go dual 5770's.
