Poll. Old Country(Hank, Waylan, G. Jones, Tammy, etc.) or new Country better?

I like Toby, G. Strait, AJ, etc...but who in the heck are some of these people? It ain't country! Especially when they play the same songs on pop stations!

Shania Twain is nice to look at but terrible to listen too. She used to be country. Who the heck is Jessica Andrews???

Gimme ol' Country anyday.

i'm not much on country, but give me johnny cash, willie, waylan, tom t hall, merle, etc... and i'm happy. this new stuff is just awful, soulless pop.

If you think about it, country is the only place for real pop music to be played now. Other genres are dominated by rap that uses no musicians to play, only computer generated thump.

So if you are a real band that actually creates and plays their own music (read this as no sampling), about the only venue left is country.

Dont know about the rest of you, but I have given up on listening to any new music except for about 5 exceptions.

Rock and roll is dead. Rap is king now....And we are all poorer for this.

Old country, nothing like 'Counting Flowers on the wall' and 'Your cheating heart','Elvira' and the Silver Fox.

can't beat "stand by your man" or "The Ride"

Like David Allan Coe said, it ain't a true Country and western song, if it don't mention: momma, trucks, trains, the rain, prison, or gettin drunk!

I usually listen to light Classical such as Amici, etc.

Lately I have been listening to more country since this is the only venue that has patriotic songs and songs about family, friends, relationships, etc.

Toby Keith and others who sing these patriotic songs are my favorites.

The problem I have with some of the so-called country singers is these guys sound like country wannabe's but too much like some alternative pop groups. And too many of these 'young hats' sound as if they are still in puberty.

Now Martina McBride and Patty Lovelace I like. Martina is from my current state and Pattty Lovelace is from my home state.

I like some of the older country songs if they don't have "cheatin" in them. Song's like "I believe in You" by Don Williams I like. And the Oak Ridge boys have some good stuff.

In the Bluegrass venue, Alison Krauss and Union Station is my favorite.

There are two country radio stations in this market (LA) and all they play is the new stuff. Thank god for in-dash CD players. There are some good young new voices out there, but they are not getting the big recording contracts. You can only hear them live in bars and clubs. I always buy the CD's that these guys are selling at those performances.

Patsy Cline is regarded as having the best singing voice of any female recording artist ever.

"We have both kinds of music, country and western"

I don't really like twangy country singing.

I do like country music. I really like Chet Atkins and others...

Shania isn't country, it's POP and if I'm in the mood I can tolerate it.

I love my XM radio! I can choose between many different styles of country (or any music for that matter) depending on what kind of mood I'm in.
Personally, I like the new country better, but still catch myself getting into some old Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, and others.

I'm going to be at Country USA again this year, and will get to see lots of big names. Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride, Trace Atkins, to name a few.
If anyone from WI (or anywhere else for that matter) is going and wants cheap tix, let me know. I have 11 left. Email is in my profile.

I like both the old and new country. Willie, Waylen, Jones, etc are all great but there are some excellent newer artists also. Of the newer artists, George Strait, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Montgomery Gentry and Travis Tritt are among my favorites. I'll always have a soft spot for Tanya Tucker.

IMO, it's all good....just maturing and evolving a little bit.
