Counterfeit Oil Filters, ebay

I do agree that it's a risk buying on Ebay. Many counterfeit Items on Ebay and Amazon. I bought 10 Kia oil filters. I made sure the seller was an original part supplier and had excellent reviews.

Hello jetman.

Note to miserable pricks with nothing better to do than troll forums for opportunities to insult others. Disregard this post.
Brilliant, paying $80+ for a 6.7 oil filter.

I'd appreciate a direct message with the BITOG member ID of the gentleman who works with Motorcraft's oil filter manufacturing company. We must expose any low-life profiteers involved in counterfeit manufacturing and sales. No-doubt, short-term use of inferior fake oil filters will damage, and inevitably destroy a turbo-diesel engine over time.

I should've dove deeper before purchasing two-dozen Motorcraft FL-2124-S oil filters from eBay at $199/dozen. or $16.58 apiece. I did confirm that the aBay seller's listing photos were of authentic Motorcraft filters and boxes. Bait and switch... The eBay middleman's go-to counterfeit wholesaler's warehouse shipping staff opted to save time by shipping them in original Chinese knock-off factory box number 29 of 45. The 4"-square white label in Chinese language says; "Made In China", which screamed; "COUNTEFREIT!" Despite my detailed eBay Return Claim explanation of Patent & Copyright violations, and details regarding the faulty designs that lack the two crucial O-rings, silicone check valve integrity, and inauthentic filtration material, eBay has not pulled the listed, nor banned the seller. The title states: NEW 12pcs FL2124S OEM Ford Motorcraft Engine Oil Filters FL2051S BC3Z-6731B by eBay seller 39_m_power. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335424853457

Notable tell-tales of Chinese counterfeit Motorcraft oil filters include: Incorrect filter box data, subtel tell-tale pagination issues, and conflicting part number FL-2124S < (without 2nd dash though), but with conflicting FL-2051-S engineering designater BC3Z-6731B below, etc.. It should read FL-2124-S MU2Z-6731-C. The filter mounting plates do not have the two small etchings, nor silicone check valve diverter vanes seen through mount plate flow holes. These fake filters from China came shrink-wrapped as first image depicts, and each individual counterfeit Motorcraft filter box is sealed within a tight-fitting brown box. No-one has reported shrink-wrap, nor brown outer boxes on any authentic Motorcraft oil filters.

The final photo shows Motorcraft's two heavy o-rings within the central flow channel below the threads. Authentic Motorcraft FL-2124-S incorporates three threads, while counterfeits have five.

I discovered many eBay middleman Motorcraft counterfeit parts sellers who send half, or less of buyer payments to drop-shippers.

See ya.

Can you cut open these counterfeit samples so we can see the internals?

We're seeing a TON of counterfeit stuff on Amazon these days. Buyer beware...

I cut one of the Ebay fakes open, and an OE Honda filter, to compare.
The box, and the paint job on the filter were excellent fakes. Printed "Made in Japan" on the box, and "Japan" on the filter that looked identical to the original in color and size.
The anti-drainback valve was orange, but installed upside down, and would never have worked.
I only took a picture of the element, so I could post it in the feedback I left.

Hopefully, all's good Mewbs.

I'd like to share the internal counterfeit element images to show design flaws with everyone, but they went back for the refund.

Illumination confirmed NO dual o-rings in the main journal, and that the internal cavern was nothing like Ford's 2051, nor 2124.

I'm sure that anyone who installs counterfeits without realizing they lack proper design elements will eventually have engine issues.

I'd've stocked Donaldson's (99% at 15-mics), but bought 19 authentic Motorcraft FL-2124-S units at $16 apiece with free delivery.

Hopefully Motorcraft's 2124 was verified for 99% flow at 18-microns. I have always used exterior magnetic bands on all can filters.

A Ford tech informed me that 2051's should be replaced at 6 months regardless of mileage to avoid paper media fragmentation.

No way to detect 2051 media failure with sprung metal bypass feature. Biggest concern? Paper frags plugging oil flow journals, IMHO.

Peace of mind. Motorcraft's FL-2124-S's reinforced synthetic media catches finer particles at higher flow, and eliminates fragmentation.

See ya. (^B[>*

I'm of no help for Motorcraft problems.
My counterfeit oil filter problem was with a counterfeit Fleetguard oil filter ebay seller.
I noticed an active Fleetguard company rep here on BITOG. I contacted him via private messaging and we handled things.
This was my first and only bad experience on ebay.
I also purchased (2018) counterfeit AC spark plugs on Amzn.
I continue to purchase from both but try to be more discerning/discriminating and haven't had any problem(s) since.

Thanks for taking time to provide the clarification jetman.

A counterfeit oil filter could be dangerous for the engine and cause catastrophic engine failure.

You can buy a Fram Extra Guard on Amazon for $3.50 with subscribe and save.
It has 95% efficiency @ > 20 microns.

No need to use Ebay and risk the counterfeits.

Thanks Bill7!

Catastrophy! No-doubt. Amateurs who install parts without verifying authenticity would be wi$er to pay heavily for service at a dealership or reputable repair shop. I returned the 2-dozen Chinese (not Arabian, nor Indian) knock-offs. My post intent was to share tell-tales in hopes of preventing other BITOG Ford 6.7 owners from destroying their super duty turbo diesels. I also hoped to find a Motorcraft manufacturing contact. I can understand why many busy folks may not read lengthy posts. I subsequently purchased nineteen authentic Motorcraft FL-2124-S oil filters for $16 apiece with free delivery from a fleet outfit. A friend sent a photo showing them at WlMt for around $20 a while back.

Ford 6.7 diesel owners, Donaldson's (99% @ 15-microns) is a mighty fine alternative to Motorcraft FL-2124-S (99% @ 18-microns). Both have durable synthetic media. Note: Motorcraft's FL-2051-S paper media may fail after 6-months, as-per a top Ford diesel tech.

A'zon is as-bad or worse re: knock-offs since they warehouse all 3rd party merch' with Manufacturer lots en-mass. The shipping pickers grab the nearest product, so you're liable to receive Fram fakes as-well. Appreciate the suggestion. Not a fan of diesel Fram filters. Used Fram in three of my 1985 Kawi 750turbo engines with a magnetic drain plug sans issues. Then I bought 2-dozen superior Kawasaki cartridges in '95.

Best...

Theres a couple of sellers on eBay i have gotten oil filters from. Mazda (a dealership out of Miami) and a Hyundai dealership (mid west somewhere.) Always been the genuine deal. I do agree, you have to be careful though.

Going with an actual franchise dealership seller on Ebay is the best guarantee of getting the genuine product on that platform. Anybody else is crapshoot
