Counterfeit MANN filter???

First oil change on an 08 SL550. Was surprised by 2 things:

1. Oil was overfilled by a quart. My guess is someone just dumped in 2 5Q jugs, instead of the 9Q required.
2. The filter looked just like a Mann/OEM, but has no manufacturer name on it.

Is this a fake/counterfeit Mann???

You have to use the "full editor" and click on the little "mountain" image to add a photo link hosted on an external site.... no more direct uploads, unfortunately

A good fake could certainly be marked the same as an authentic item.

I was just curious if anybody had seen them before. It is out of the car now. Only Mann, MB, Mahle going in from now on.

Umm, am I missing something? If you click on "Use Full Editor", then down here in the Post Options area, you click the Picture Uploader option and it is a direct upload?

Linctex was talking about links to external photo hosting sites. Yes, the "Picture Uploader" as shown above is the way to directly upload photos from you computer the the site.

Look at it this way. It can't be a counterfeit Mann if it isn't marked as or claiming to be a Mann.

It's a "marker" part made for the assembly line (by the original supplier) to show a mechanic well after delivery if the oil has been serviced or neglected.

That's a guess derived from the recent thread regarding oddly marked Ford factory filters.

Yeah. I think it was a problem related to using my tablet instead of a desktop. I used the picture uploader, and tried looking at the post and the pic didn't show, so I thought it didn't work.. Gonna go back to using the Ol' iMac to post anything with a pic.

So, it is an "assembly line" installed filter? That would be even weirder. That means it was taken off of another cars new engine and "recycled" into this one.
After looking at how bad the aftermarket radio installation was, that is actually a valid possibility.

Looks exactly like a Bosch WorkShop (WS) oil filter that anybody can buy. Note the markings on the top are the same from the file picture of it:
It could be a counterfeit, yet I doubt its anything other than a very good Bosch.

And, now that I know the Bosch filter is of good quality, I might buy some in the future!
I had seen pics of them for sale, looking just like a Mann, but was afraid to try one.
