Topped up my stash today. Mobil 1 10w30 $82 AUD for 5 litres, Castrol Edge synthetic 5w30 $39 AUD for 5 litres. Now I know the Castrol is grp 111 but so is the Mobil. So now I have a stash of the Castrol and my affair with Mobil is at an end.

My goodness, what accounts for the ~factor of two price difference? Is the Mobil 1 shipped across the ocean on the backs of swimmers while Castrol uses barges?

I don't know, but there is a guy from India on this board who has stated that Mobil1 is really expensive there too. My guess is that they either don't have the same distribution in those countries or the marketing people have figured they can charge more in those cultures.

What proof do you have that any flavor of Mobil-1 for today;s typical passenger vehicles has all Group III?

What proof do you have that any flavor of Mobil-1 even has a higher percentage of Group III than Group IV per jug?

Triple
No proof at all, just what I have gleaned here on the board. In any event is the Mobil worth 2x the Castrol with whatever group? Will it protect and make my engines last longer? I think not.

Go back and read that infamous thread. One or possibly two of the Extended Protection oils MIGHT be mostly Group III. Any conjecture about any other Mobil 1 product would be based on absolutely no data.

In any event I have enough Mobil 1 for my Toyota Kluger/Highlander and Castrol synthetic for my Corolla to see them both to the end of their warranties after which I shall use Redline and change on an annual oci.

I think YOU need to reread the thread. It was THREE grades and the samples were taken over a two year period. The samples were analyzed by a professional with over 20 years in the industry and was peer reviewed. Think of the odds of it being a random occurrence or a mistake.

And why would EOM use less expensive Group III basestocks in it's "Premium" grade charging a premium price but not the "Standard" grade that's priced lower?

Finally, a retired EOM employee admitted on another forum that EOM does use Group III in it's M1 product line.
