Corvette C7, Z51 thoughts?

Prancing horses, Lambos, higher level P-cars, or even McLarens go unnoticed in the high zoot areas of those (and other) cities, as they are almost 'a dime a dozen' there (and even around here for that matter, as my immediate area is ~300% ABOVE the median US income level), so WHY even bother with them for snooty/'status' reasons??

Around here, a new higher level Audi, Merc (even AMGs/Black Series), Porsche, and especially Bimmers (even the M cars) are basically like an Elantra, or Corolla anywhere else, which is WHY I laugh when their owners think that they have something special around here, and wonder why they 'pass themselves' so many times a day in this area.

I really like the C7, But......Not many outside a divorced Boomer in full crisis mode thinks they're "Prestigious" or any kind of status symbol for that matter.

Yes, prestige.

The Corvette has long been the king of the American sports car - and a "bucket list" car for almost every gear head since the 50's. They're fast and they're cool, and they likely always will be. I'm the resident Euro snob - and even I want a Corvette.

The Hyundai is just a wannabe, not even as good as Nissan's ancient 370Z.

Clearly, the Corvette has both good and bad "prestige" associated with it. One one hand, it's a drivers-car and sets a performance standard that is well recognized. Enthusiasts will compare their performance cars to various Corvette models as a basis of understanding the capabilities of their BMW, Porsche or Tesla.

On the other hand, a bald old guy like me (in a sports car) gets statements like "stereotypes exist for a reason". It matters not one bit that I've had performance cars from the day I got my license way back in the 1970's. In fact, as an adult, I've only been without a true performance car for short periods of time. I recently sold my 407 RWHP, turbocharged Honda S2000. A car considerably faster than a base model Corvette. (there is that comparison again)

The S2000 was, unfortunately, really a Honda Civic under the skin, and despite the near religious fanaticism associated with them, I found it lacking in chassis rigidity, manners, braking performance and overall reliability. It's no surprise it destroyed a differential and transmission in under 30,000 miles of "old man" type use.

The Corvette is more capable of handling hard use than many cars are. Hence my interest.

Yes, that's me driving the Enzo, chasing a Mclaren F1, which was 700 feet faster than the Enzo. In other words, each time the the throttle was depressed, the F1 would jump ahead 700 feet, at which point the cars were relatively evenly matched. The nanny electronics on the Enzo really neutered it in real world use, such as trying to keep up with the boss.

Maybe neither one is super prestigious, but between the two, I would definitely give it to the Vette.

The drivetrains are usually solid, it's the body that's a problem. Lots of unique parts, but GM doesn't really care and acts like it's any other car, and since it's low volume they'll discontinue something in a heartbeat. I have people come in all the time wanting parts for 10+ year old Vettes and I can't help them at all. Eckler's should pay me a fee for advertising.
