Correct forum to discuss Board Issues?

I tried to post to the 'Board Issues' forum but that must
be for moderators only because it wouldn't let me.

I just had an observation as a newbie here but a regular on
many other boards. There is so much traffic here on the
gasoline vehicle oil forum that threads get pushed down
and out of sight very quickly. I wonder whether a solution
might be to try to subdivide that forum into smaller pieces
so that thread movement is less. Otherwise, it's difficult
to keep a discussion alive because of the volume of new threads.

Make a new bookmark folder and bookmark all threads that you follow.

I think the search engine works pretty good unless you want to search multiple categories at once. I'm on a couple other boards with far worse search engines.

Thank you Godfather.

Mori has another special gift, he's the board's spell checker. No need to install a pesky spell checking software for your web browser.

Bookmarking at first seems reasonable. The problem is that
as the asker of a question, your potential audience shows up,
and skims over the most recent page or two of questions, and
never sees--let alone bookmarks--your question because of the
high posting rate.

If somehow the forum was subdivided so it took a while for
a message to flow off the first screen, a question might be
more likely to catch someone's attention who can help.

Now, it's fair question how things could be subdivided--perhaps
there's no reasonable way to do it. Maybe 'leaks','routine
changes','performance','synthetic vs. dino', etc.

As someone with a little experience, I'll admit I don't scroll
back over 5 pages looking at all the questions since I was
here last, and because of that, may not be able answer someone
even though I know I have an idea.

Eric makes a good point about the volume being a problem but the solution isn't more sub forums. That would just clutter things up more. The simple solution is for the moderators and administrators to take it upon themselves to delete the useless topics as they are policing the topics. And there are plenty of useless topics that could be deleted. Right now there is a 10 page thread about a rumor of Mobil 1 being recalled that proved wrong. A thread about the color of Valvoline botles in Australia. A thread about how little mechanics know. Can I go wrong with Pennzoil? Hourly updates on the price of oil at the WalMart in Podunk Georgia. The never ending revelation that CAFE and 5W20 are somehow intertwined. Brand X vs Brand Y discussions that are the king of pointless waste of bandwidth. Just to name a few that have no value.

I know this will never happen but why can't the mods use their experience to evaluate the general usefulness of a topic and eliminate the ones that serve no purpose other than to increase post counts?

I'm also the resident finger giver.

Maybe all posts, thread starters and replies, should be pre-approved by a moderator before they are posted. I have actually come across a forum where every new post was subject to approval.

Something that would be good with the Board Search is if it would only show you the main threads with the keywords and not everyone's replies as a separate search result containing the words you are looking for. This is just stupid IMO.

A little extreme but if sheer volume is a problem then some method of reducing that volume may be necessary.

Again, that's a little extreme. It's obvious some people have very little else in their lives other than posting 3-400 times a month here.
