My dad was in an accident so the insurance company provided him a rental. A 2015 corolla. I have to say i was pretty disappointed, its not a terrible car but for the cost there are much better options imo. The entire car felt cheap. The seats are narrow and offer little suport in the lumbar area. The back seat though has plenty of room is very firm and blocky feeling. The entire car is just cheap feeling the hood and doors are tinging..... and if you roll one window down itll make that vibrating thudding sound so bad it shakes the rear view mirror. The car also doesn't handpe that well. It exhibits a lot of body roll. The motor is smooth and the transmission is fine and well mannered the car is civilized. Its not a terrible a to b car but for a premium price i do not understand why people buy them. I owned a focus and a dart now. Id buy both over the corolla. The focus though a lemon was a nicer feeling car than the corolla, and the dart is miles ahead of both of them. The dart feels more solid interior is nicer it handles better ect and costs less. Sorry toyota i am not a fan. It felt to much like a penalty box for my taste.

weird, we have a 2014 corolla LE with a CVT in the family, drives fantastically and rides just fine.
43 mpg average @ 80 mph cruise between Chicago & St. Louis.
your not a heavy set individual are you? because those seats are more then comfortable for us. We don't have any fat people in our family or genetic pool for that matter(that I know of).

I rented one a few years back when they still had gears in the auto-box. This is also when the electric throttles were just coming out. That little thing shifted at 3500 RPM at WOT when cold. Guess it's anti-abuse programming.
It was from Enterprise and had mostly worn front tires, 40k, had never been rotated, and the state inspection was a few months overdue.

All the offerings in this class are penalty boxes it seems except Acura ILX , bmw 1 series and mb a class, chevy Cruze because they put effort into them.
I rented all of them: dart, focus, civic and Corolla and they all falter with something. For a tad money getting a accord, fusion, Malibu etc buys a really nice vehicle that is leap years ahead even in base model.

I had Corolla as a rental in 2006, it was quite dreadful and didn't have too many miles on it. I admit that I do like the current gen as far as the exterior and interior looks go, but I didn't have a chance to have some seat time with the new one.
But from the sounds of it, after almost a decade not much has changed with the Corolla.

Oh no their must be something wrong with you or Toyota issues special cars to rental companies. If you bought one off a lot it would be a totally different car.

In the 90's they were a pretty bomb proof car, it was a running joke with my buddy and I about how many quarts his sisters would take when we would check it. Typically 2-3....still it ran for 12 years and suffered no ill affects from it.
Toyota of the 90's is not the Toyota of today, much how GM of the 50's was not the GM of the 80's. They are in the we don't care anymore we will still sell cars phase. They can still build a proper car Lexus shows this, but they put zero effort into their volume models. The older generation ie my parents keep their sales healthy.

Toyotas, Nissans, and Hyundai/Kia have always had some of the worst numb sloppy steering feel of any modern cars. I've driven all over many years, and they still don't have it right in the their family cars.

Actually that title is reserved for the Ford Focus. The only way that Corolla can beat the Focus is if you start counting all other corolla platform vehicles that were sold under different names around the world.

The Corolla just isn't that great. The civic is marginally better, but the Cruze and dart are much, much better in dynamics, comfort, feel.
I'll take that back a bit - the Corolla has soft seats and the rolling couch Toyota suspension, and a decent amount of space anymore, so it is comfortable enough to cruise along in if you're not trying to extract any appreciable performance from it...

I agree.
Corolla owners bought their cars because of these main factors: low cost of buying, low maintenance cost, reliability, fuel economy, and good resale/trade-in ...
They didn't looking for driving dynamic of a BMW or Audi.
Toyota should be able to produce a much better Corolla but at a much higher cost, this will alienate their core customers. I don't blame them for keeping a successful car formula.

Yeah but their are some good little cars out their. All of the American companies plus FCA have a better offering, heck even Subaru does a nicer job.
You don't have to spend BMW money to get a nice little car, you just have to head over to the Dodge, Chevy, or Ford dealer.
