I picked up a 230v 30 gallon compressor and have decided to get some air tools. I was gifted this Cornwall 301 grinder and I’m confused on how to set it up - there is an attachment on it that isn’t stock (at least based on the pictures I've seen) and I cannot remove it. The manual is of no help and I’m feeling dumb lol. I’d like to be able to sand/grind with it. Any input appreciated.

Looks like just a collet set up? Usually you will need a air tool thin wrench for the back flat. Does that wrench you have on it ( pic 2) fully seat on the flat? If so it might just be on extra tight from being on there for many years.

Yes that was it. I feel a bit foolish but I got it loose! I need to get a couple of air tool thin wrenches. Thank You.

If you know any old mekaniks they likely have a drawer full of these plate wrenches. Every die grinder comes with a set. I like the 90 degree one that lays on the body or head of the tool.

That said, there are at least two standards so test fit.

One of the best things I've done for (what remains of) my sanity is engrave every tool or spindle or bolt head with the necessary wrench size. The provided plate wrenches are rarely marked (but I just got an M7 that was!!!!) so determine their size and engrave them. You'll thank me later.

Also V8 Tools makes decent plate wrenches. They're full size but would work here. SnapOn (and maybe Capri?) make "thin, low torque" wrenches that are more like traditional open end wrenches slit in half or normal thickness.

You need some thin/plate wrenches to be issued a man card! ;)
