Cordless Tool Batteries

I used an M12 brushed ratchet, an M18 brushless impact driver, and an M18 Fuel impact wrench today all on the same project (pads and rotors). For my purposes I don't need everything to be Fuel.
everyone has their own needs. my tools used to be my income and still do part time. everything is fuel for battery efficiency, power and durability.

Yeah if I was using them to earn a living I'd invest in the best too. All they do for me is earn me money kept in my pocket from not paying a shop or contractor for car or home projects.

I don't know how I do any work as I don't own any red tools fuel or otherwise, I do have some real Milwaukee though. LOL

Every time I watch the Nurburgring 24 hours I always see Milwaukee impact guns being used. These guys are not racing to lose. All I need to know.
Does Milwaukee have a "commercial " line that is heavier duty than whats at Home Depot and the like, allowing racing teams to get the good stuff? I bought two sets of gloves for wrenching on race cars many years ago. The mechanix brand wore through two of the fingers. The other brand irongrip can't remember the name offhand is still going strong many years later.

I have a couple of the red tools. They work well but in my heart, I’m a Makita fan.
Back during start of Lithium ion batteries in 2006 or so......the same 18v makita batteries work and are unchanged from the genesis of lith-ion.....red and yellow brands have both changed their batteries in chemistry and construction....3 times.

makita has not changed....that says something

today, Milwaukee has the market though. 90% + of the tools i see on sites are red.

Frustrating for sure. I’m stuck between rigid 18V, one 12v drill which has been the “go-to,” and then a small collection of ryobi when something weird is needed. Lawn implements are the ryobi 40V.

The want to standardize is supreme. The wall of chargers tells the story.

Rigid has given me 4-5 new batteries under warranty, and they have repaired the little drill a couple of times under lifetime warranty.

The newer stuff with brushless motors is impressive - I still have several brushed 18V drills going strong.

Yeesh.

What kind of use did these 4-5 batts get?

Glad they fixed the drill but what are you doing that it went twice?

Metabo (Hitachi) seems to fly under the radar. Needed to pick up an extra driver recently and shopped against red and yellow and was surprised that Metabo beat both on specs and price.

Always liked the stuff, line seems thin for my needs.

Do they have lawn & garden tools ?

(string trimmer/ pole saw/hedge trimmer/ articulating hedge trimmer/ blower, pruners, mower, augers, chain saws)

nope. fuel line is the top of the line for M18. there is their MX line but that’s industrial sized tools.

Wife buying 18V Makita string trimmer

Yes I hate the idea of a 4th battery type

Best source of 18V battery?
I went all in on the Makita 18v line.

1/2 drill (2), sawzall (2), jigsaw, angle grinder (2), impact drivers (2), 1/2" impact wrenches (3), lights, shop blower.

And

Lawnmower, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, leaf blower, leaf vacuum.

I labeled every battery, from 3.0 Ah to 6.0 Ah. I'm up to 29, I think.

Battery #1, the oldest, a 3.0 Ah, that came with the first 18v Drill, is still in service after well over a decade of constant use.

I am in nearly the same position with DeWalt but went with the Makita whacker because the DeWalt offering is 4 pounds heavier!

My oldest yellow battery is from 2011. Amazing really.

Powerful tool for outdoors? 80V Greenworks are my ticket. Heavy doh.

Red for 12V nowadays most used drills and drivers by far

Four battery types!

Started doing some work on a mower and garden tiller yesterday. When I grabbed a Milwaukee drill off the shelf I found out my last two 18v batteries are shot and won't hold much of a charge so I figured I would use the old Porter cable and I'll be darned both of those batteries are shot too. Last winter must have been hard on the old batteries and now it's going to cost a fortune to replace. Sure am glad I still have corded tools.

The cheap knock off battery for greenworks does a good job in a pole saw but only lasts about 5 minutes in the weedeater. I've been happy with greenworks so far, it does a good job and my OEM batteries are three years old and still strong.

I have one knockoff battery it’s like 1/3 the weight of the legitimate battery of same Ah rating so yeah science

They definetly aren't rated as advertised. I thought maybe it was just the plastic case and no batteries because it was so lite. Of course it had nothing but good ratings on scamazon
