Copper heat diffuser for kitchen range

My stove is electric. There are a couple of pots in my kitchen that are wider than the diameter of my largest hob. My hobs don't heat perfectly evenly. I am thinking of getting a copper heat diffuser to help spread the heat evenly and hopefully help improve my cooking experience. This is an example of what I'm considering:

Any thoughts, especially from anyone who has used such a diffuser?

Hey Shel, I've never used one, but from what I can tell they would be very effective at equalizing the heat transfer throughout the surface area. And it goes without saying, it increases the dangerous surface area of the stove top. Probably not a good thing to have if you have any kiddos or cats coming and going through the kitchen. Good luck on your decision.

No cats or kids to worry about ... thanks.

We used to have an aluminum diffuser. Did the job.

Copper might be too fast, could work. But $95? (10 inch (254 mm) X 1/8th inch (3.175mm) ~ 4 lbs) See if you can just buy some sheet copper.

I'm looking at alternatives. Have not yet found anything as thick, which may be of some importance. There's a dealer on Etsy that sells assorted sizes and, perhaps, thicknesses as well. Waiting to hear back. Other items found online have definitely been too thin. There are a couple of nearby metalworking shops that may be able to help out, one of which I've done business with many years ago.

What pans do you have?
Heat diffusers have issues too. such as your pans have to be perfectly flat bottom.

The pans I'm concerned about are an 8-quart All-Clad D5 stock pot which has a very wide bottom

and a 6.75 quart Le Creuset pot, which also has a large diameter and is considerably wider than the hob

My pans are perfectly flat.

your pots are 11" and 14"
Might want to get a 12" diffuser

My pots are 11 inches and 12 inches ... just double-checked their measurements. I posted the link to a 10-inch diffuser as an example, but a square 12-inch one is what I'd prefer There's a metal fabricator near me that I will contact to see if they'll be able to help. I think the larger width or diameter is the way to go with these big pots. If the local guy can't help me, I'll contact the shop you suggested directly and order from them.

Thanks for your help 👍

I'm getting this one ...
