Coolant Bypass

Thanks for the welcome Gary. Good deal on the mounts. I couldn't see spending what NAPA or the truck places wanted for their 11/16 inch ones. I see the ebay ones are down to $14 now.

They seem to work fine. The only thing I noticed is the threaded stud extends enough to push the internal center section of the coolant filter down so I cut them shorter. Other than that they work fine and I like the four ports on them. Makes plumbing easy.

Mine is made by some company called TVS India. The machining is very good on it. It only has two ports and four mounting holes. It also appears to have an undrilled part that was intended for some type of sensor/sender. It has the holes to hold whatever it was down ..but just an indentation for the device itself. The gasket mating surface has a "jetty" that protrudes inward from the gasket circle machined surface on the inside where this device would reside over.
 
In thinking about doing a coolant bypass I have a small 3/8 hose that coolant heat to the throttle body, would this work for a bypass supply in parallel or would I have to much pressure drop? I had thought about series but have concerns about vehicle operation should it become plugged.

I am still trying to find a spot where put on on my explorer. the valve is very close to the pump, I would have to tap into the hose between them. Its not looking like a easy task.

Well I am still searching for a 11/16 mount.
 
You just run a longer hose from the pump to the valve. That will allow you to tap in. You can run it to the other side of the engine bay if you have to.

If you can find nylon T fittings, this might be the cheapest. NAPA might have them. All you need to do then is either reduce the hose (with hose reducers - also available from NAPA) and then find the appropriate size hose barb for the mount. You can also order all the parts from Grainger, McMaster, and, maybe, Northern Tool. You can reduce one leg of a Tee fitting to the size needed for the coolant filter.

Lots of fun to be had with all kinds of neat parts

I think after all of my projects, some labeling will be needed. If I took it to the dealer they might pass out with all the lines, hoses and wires.

Ok I will check them sites out. I blew my budget though with the scanguage. I have to tread carefully or my wife is gonna hit me in the head with the big a$$ Donaldson filter I bought and that spells sure death.

Those sites carry the 11/16 mount to? I forgot..lol

I've been using a Frantz for a coolant filter on my PSD for over 3 yrs now and It continues to impress me how good they work.. Go with the most simplest setup.. Simple works and is efficient.. For me, The Frantz of Motorguard is the way to go..

????? are you actually filtering the engine coolent with the same type TP as normally used for oil?

Also, what degree of contaminents are you seeing at filter changes, and how does whatever filter material you are using hold up?

FWIW .. I’m running my 03 Duramax with a Baldwin B5134 mounted on a CFB5000 base . I installed it at 15k and have changed it annually three times since (approx 15kmi per change). At each change I've found about the same amount of contaminants in the filter… Here’s some PICs

The B5134’s (or WIX equivalent) are fairly inexpensive as well as the mounting base ..
IIRC about $8 for the filter and $20 for the base plus hoses, fittings and clamps…

Okie, I bet that coolant filter gets hot next to the hot side of that holset. Anyone else using FF filters and heads? Any new developments. No car can ever have enough filters.
