My 19 years old LS400 is almost 300k miles never had the valve cover removed, no valve tick that I can hear. My 13 years old E430 with more than 140k miles is the same, never removed the valve covers and hope that never will.

You will find quite a few Hondas with 200K+ miles which never had any valve adjustment. That is one of the reason the schedule says "only if needed". It is a good idea to do it at 100K but it is rarely done at that mileage.
 
If you adjust the valve lash on a Honda enough to eliminate all ticking they will be too tight. There is an amount that is "just right" and necessary.

There also seem to be an increasing number of newer Hondas with valve clearances that are becoming too tight, well before the 100k mark. Art's automotive has posted stories of this happening on certain 2.4s and the Honda Fit. Also, the Honda 3.5s on the MDX and a few other models are notorious for this.
 
You aren't having fun till you are changing pucks on a fiat SOHC without the NLA special tool for depressing the lifters backed by 8000rpm double valve springs. Because the cam bearings are one piece and the cam box uses a gasket between it and the head, you cant just pop the cam off and maintain clearances.
