converting to a crusier

I think its time to trade my SV650n for a cruiser type bike. Just simply because i think it fits me a little better and like always the grass seems greener.

But i only like the power cruisers. IE Yahama roadstar warrior, Harley VROD type of bikes. I know nothing on belt driven bikes or the maintenance needed. Would either bike be more maintenance then a normal [censored] bike?

I'm sure there are more bikes that can that look this. But any other bikes that look similiar to this from the factory.

Would it be completely diffrent to maneuver something like this? I'm looking around my area to see if the local dealerships have any i can throw my leg around. Are test rides normally given out on used bikes, never bought on from a dealer before.

V rod valve adjustments can be a bit of a pain and indeed if you take it to a dealer, many will try to really stick it to you. They also have pretty small gas tanks, especially the early ones.

I would look at a Victory Hammer or if you want liquid cooled, the new Indian Scout might but up your alley as well as the Harley V Rod.

Overall i would like to spend $5-6k MAX on this. I'm still in the window shopping and learning phases.

A honda shadow looks interesting with a few mods i guess it can be equal, minus power. I will have to look into what parts and mods are called on cruisers to make it more Vrod like. Obviously sometype of drag bars, fatter tire and blacking things out.

I had a Roadstar Warrior for 10 years. I bought it new in June 2005. It was a midnight (black). I can't say enough good about the bike for what it was. I never had any issues, or problems of any type. It was quick for a cruiser, handling, braking, ride quality was also great. The wheels, tires,suspension were very close to sport bike equipment. The Warrior you posted is not stock, neither was mine.
I had a Victory cross country for a while. After experiencing Yamaha quality for a 10 years, I was a little disappointed with the Vic, and had to fix a number of small detail issues. Other than that it rode great.
There are some great bikes out there as others have mentioned. Most dealers will allow test rides of used bikes, at least around here. Go check out as many as you can until you find the one right for you.

If you go V-Rod, look at the Muscle. I've known too many people who bought a V-Rod, only to regret they didn't get the fatter tire and better looking handlebars of the Muscle.

Isn't 10K miles about where they call for $2,000+ worth of service? I might dump it at that point, too!

A friend had the V-rod, and he had nothing but problems with it. It was constantly at the dealer for all kinds of issues, and HD dealers are ridiculously expensive. I would look at either the warrior, shadow, or m109(awesome bike). The Indian scout is also a really good looking bike that I would consider, albeit more expensive.

yes, my local HD dealer allows test rides. I imagine most dealers should? take a look at road track and trail. they have literally a few hundred used bikes in stock - all online - and its not too far from you as its in lower WI. I have a friend with a Warrior and a VROD Muscle. he likes both of them - but does not run many miles. Yamaha has a Stryker or Raider (I dont remember which is the larger one) and if you like the Honda Fury you can get them cheap. price dropped on new ones = 9999. )or lower)

It should be in the neighborhood of 500 bucks. That is if you get an honest dealer. The issue with the valve adjustments is that the rear valve cover cannot be removed as the engine sits in the bike. So in the service manual you have to take the front motor mount loose and pivot the engine to tip the rear cylinder down slightly. Some dealers who are dishonest will actually remove the whole engine, using this excuse to charge you for a plethora of new stuff such as coolant, hoses, etc. The spark plugs also require you to take the airbox off (which is where the tank sits on most bikes). However, you can just pop some iridium plugs in there and be done with it forever.

As for another suggestion, the OP could look into the Yamaha Stryker or Raider. There is also the Triumph Rocket III if you want something out of the norm. That big 2,300cc engine makes for some fun.
