I know it would be overkill...but just humor me....in theory, what would protect an engine better? Pennzoil conventional every 3000 or pp every 5-6k? just interested in everyones opinions...I'm not new to this but I'm considering switching to conventional and just cutting my oci in half...b/c when it comes down to it, fresh oil means less particles in the oil which means less wear on gaskets...any thoughts?

That isn't correct.

It has been proposed that changing your oil early actually increases wear. In very short UOA, wear metals are often higher per mile than longer UOA.

In your locaton, you would be hard pressed to see any measurable difference in wear between those oils and the intervals you listed.

Realistically speaking, the 3,000 mile interval is dead. I change our conventional at 6-7,000 miles and using syn in my mother's car (currently PP), I change at 10,000 +/- miles.

Additionally, the current cost difference between the two is minimal. If I did not have a stash or was not able able to acquire conventional at the deals I find, I would simply run Pennzoil or Quaker State Synthetics.

Just to touch on "severe service" intervals, the used oil analysis of my trail Jeep at 1500 miles (which is MANY hours of trail time!) is more severe than ANY street driving most people encounter. The TBN was still strong and Blackstone recommended running 2,000 more miles. I now run these rigs out to two year change intervals and have fun worry free.

Wow. How about a new question, instead of one that has been discussed to death already?

I understand that you're new and all, but many of these topics have been discussed over and over and over and over already.

I dont believe early changes hurt anything. There are plenty of cars out there that have been changed every 3k and still run like new with 150k.
Keep in mind that particle counts dont count larger particles because the oil filter catches them. And more over M1 used to show high iron in used oil analysis for some unknown reason and all those cars are still running strong.

Shorter ocis are better for the engine, to some small degree, but not cost effective.

Why not humor the long time users of the site and use the search and continue one of the many threads that already exist on the topic? Here are just a few.

Specifics always help too.

Syn isn't about superior protection at steady state use, per se, more about faster flow, higher oxidation resistance, better maintenance of optimal viscosity, etc.
