The mirage is definitely a nice compact car. I think both mirage and versa are decent. Given the similar price, Mirage has excellent interior features (touch screen console for example) and Versa comes with 1600cc engine. Both of them are the best choices for a student or everyone who looks for fuel-efficient while reliable and good-looking car.

I had a versa. Windshield was like a rear window with a high cowl hight. Didn't like that and I'm 6'2". Strut suspension was cheap garbage, engine are know to have piston slap, issue. Mine stated knockng one winter morning but I suspect this was due to improper oiling from the poorly conceiooved Chinese oil filter on the car. These engines sport dual port duall spray injectors NOT direct injection. The dealer wouldn't fix my engine knock so I traded it to them a month later. They had no clue.
There was almost NO room for oil to get to the filter from the inlet around the endcaps that fit within 10 thousandths radial clearance. Insane garbage. Nissan dumped these CHINA OE filters and now they use GONHER near their plant in mexico.

So a 50 mile one way commute is fairly common here. With the traffic situation 1.5-2 hours is likely. I know a couple who spend 4.5 hours each day in their round trip commute and they use the train. This area is not alone. It’s a fact of life living in large cities.

You know what's funny? I have live in the middle of this small city beacuse houses are much cheaper downtown than out in the suburbs. I commute out past the suburbs for work, so it's a reverse commute. No traffic jams, 10 minutes of city roads, and 25 minutes of two-lane rural highway. My turbo-direct-injection engine has it good.
