The Seattle area got hit with a 'catastrophic' 7-9" snowfall last night/this morning.

I am happy to report that the Continental TrueContact Tours did excellent on the AWD Santa Fe.

There were only two times that I locked the AWD in due to having to stop on an incline where other cars were spinning and going backwards. When it was my time to go around them, I didn't want to take the chance of hitting them.

Other than that, I couldn't tell if or when the SF was using FWD or AWD.

First one to make it into the office today.

One mod you can do for part time 4WD/AWD is mount an LED in the dash wired to the control circuit for the 4WD/AWD, though a current limiting resistor, and to ground. LED will light up when it activates.

"Catastrophic" is way overused for weather events. Katrina was catastrophic. 8" of snow is a minor inconvenience.

Glad your SF did well!

I think he was being sarcastic.

Seattle has tons of vids like below.

No sane person would drive into Seattle, let alone on a day like today.

The second one was the infamous Portland, Oregon winter of 2007. I remember some news organization tracked down the driver of the Volvo SUV that the driver tried to power out of the ice only to play pinball. Apparently all he had was "no comment".

I remember that footage well. It was funny because nobody got seriously hurt, although there was plenty of property damaged.

That footage was from a Seattle news station that got its hands on the amateur video. This is one of the older versions of the video:

Figured it was being sarcastic (quotes!) and certainly not a slam on your post, but a slam on news outlets using the word!!

Local stations are praying for blizzards. Here there is a chance of 3inches of snow (and living in Colorado means 3 inches prediction might be sunny day or 40 inches overnight). They immediately say: are we getting major storm! Is it going to be like 1997 (that is when Colo. Springs got like 4ft of snow and some drifts were as high as 12ft. Only vehicles capable of moving were from Ft. Carson ATV's). Than we get one inch, barely and one can see absolute disappointment in anchors voice that no one died of being stuck or something like that.

Anyway, back to the original point, I can recommend the TrueContact Tour as an all season, heavy rain and mild snow tire on an AWD vehicle.

Would I go offroad in the winter like at a ski resort with these? Nope. For that I would probably have gotten the GY WeatherReady 3PMS tires, which were my first choice, but I decided to save roughly $50/tire.

Another snow storm today. Another 4 inches and counting. Took 2 hours to get home, but I was able to drive right past the big 4X4's and Jeeps struggling on the icy back roads .

You bet. Not everyone needs dedicated snow tires for only a week of snow a year.

Another nice thing about the Conti TrueContact Tour is they tend to be lighter weight than most other tires in their respective sizes. This could mean better fuel economy and acceleration.

Great review, thank you for a good read.

Accident only happens ones, not every week.
As other video showed about snow tires, braking is bigger issue than moving forward.
No one died from not moving forward fast enough, but they did from not being able to stop fast enough.
