BD, are you guys leaving it on the charger much like a trickle charger? Or, is it taking that long to fully charge? We have one, its been hooked up to our (admittedly old) 240v charger for 2 days now. It looks really cool.
Takes that long to charge. This charger was put in like 10-11 years ago and its slow. Like someone had a C-Max hooked up to it for 5 hours and it charged the battery 10-15%.BD, are you guys leaving it on the charger much like a trickle charger? Or, is it taking that long to fully charge?
Tks.
How many amps is it pulling? Our Model 3 pulls 30 to 32A and nets 25 to 32 "mph" at home with the NEMA 14-50 plug.Takes that long to charge. This charger was put in like 10-11 years ago and its slow. Like someone had a C-Max hooked up to it for 5 hours and it charged the battery 10-15%.
The fact that stupid options cost more than the base model should highlight the idiocy of the pricing scheme, and prices overall. Also it should be pointed out before everyone goes its 90+k... That is for the Platinum model. The work pro model starts at under 42k and the XLT version (bread and butter trim level) starts under 55k.
Same as the regular gas powered F150, the starting sticker on an XL is 31k, while the starting sticker on a Limited is 77k. Same truck, but more bells and whistles. Nothing new in the truck world.
I haven't checked, I just know its on 2 dedicated breakers. It is more trouble than its worth at times. People will pull up and unplug a vehicle that is charging or demand that we move another customer's car or they will have them towed. Seeing as how it is right outside parts, I get to babysit it. We didn't get any grant money so its ours outright to deny service to people acting up. The parking spots the cord reaches are not marked either. We have a fast charger in the back in service but it needs to be activated with a card that only our GM has.How many amps is it pulling? They may be more profitable, but it’s exactly because you know what they say about a fool and their money…Yep. Companies are in the business of making profit. Higher trims are far more profitable.
If I were buying, I would be interested in that 2.7L with the 10 speed trans.
The Ligntning would be fun, but the price of admission is too high.
My old Tundra will continue to suck the gas...
Well, you realize the amount of Wh/mile a car form that is optimized for drag coefficient over all else… vs a repurposed pickup truck platform fit with an EV drivetrain…. Pickup trucks have never been looked at to be a prudent fuel saving choice if that’s one’s outlook. How many amps is it pulling? I am not interested in a fancy pants truck for 2 reasons: one they cost waaaay to much, as you said. Second, a truck to me is a tool and it is gonna get dirty. EV, diesel, gas, whatever. They may be more profitable, but it’s exactly because you know what they say about a fool and their money…
It’s just obscene how much more car(s) you can get for that money. “platinum” or not. A “platinum” F-150 may be super fancy and filled with nice stuff. I just have zero need or desire to waste my money like that for something that will be worth pennies on the dollar before long.
And that’s not to be negative of the product. I’d prefer this to most any other EV out there.

And an old school charger on a low amp breaker isn’t going to do a whole lot…
How big is your charger breaker?I am not interested in a fancy pants truck for 2 reasons: one they cost waaaay to much, as you said. Second, a truck to me is a tool and it is gonna get dirty. EV, diesel, gas, whatever.
My question was about the dealership's charging capability. Like you say, an old school charger on a low amp breaker isn’t going to do a whole lot… I was wondering why it took so long to charge. If a dealership is gonna sell EVs then they should have adequate charging abilities, right? When people ask me about EV ownership, the 1st thing I ask them is, "How you gonna charge?" 110v aint gonna cut it and you just may have to upgrade your service. Big bucks...
On the list: When i get one i'll be running M1 5w30 EP and Amsoil Signature Transmission Fluid in this baby!
When we got the Model 3, a union electrician came over and installed a 50A breaker and 60' of #6 copper wire under the house to the garage to a NEMA 14-50 outlet. How big is your charger breaker?
A dealership probably has 208 if not 480v 3-phase power. Likely big panels too. The work isn’t even $$ or hard to DIY if the building (or house) is set up well and the panel is relatively accessible.
I’m still annoyed that the Pro comes with vinyl seats only, if you want cloth you have to step up to the XLT, and that’s a $13,000 price difference. I’d gladly give up the touch screen radio even. Also it should be pointed out before everyone goes its 90+k... That is for the Platinum model. And it can suck a lot of $6 gas for the price of admission of a Lightning, or any new full size truck for that matter. My old Tundra will continue to suck the gas...
