I have to wonder if anyone considered this possibility, for even a second.
This guy doesn't want to be involved in this meeting.
So figures hey, if I keep spitting and hacking, someone may get tired of watching me, and then I can end this punishment sooner.

My boss knows how much I HATE teleconferencing, and that the split second it seems to stray off the subject, or I find any reason at all to end it, I do very quickly.
There is real work to be done, lets not waste time on ridiculous meetings, so Johnny over there can attempt to justify his job.
I totally agree. 99.9 and 3/4% of meetings are a total waste of time. The biggest waste of time meetings are those “self motivation” speakers (aka bullsh*t artists). I can’t believe people actually get paid to go around doing that.

Well at least they are entertaining.

Yep.

I was on a Zoom conference call for a big construction project going on and I noticed one of the main construction contractors was constantly spitting his chewing tobacco into an empty coffee cup for everyone to see.

I know the habit is difficult to kick, but he couldn’t hold off for an hour and not spit into cup.... ?

He looked very unprofessional..... 😦

.
Sometimes we have to work with people whom we may not agree with on a personal level. I do not use tobacco of any kind but to each his/her own. If it were on a large construction job site would you care then? Sure unprofessional but, and it's a huge BUT!! What's the end goal of this guy's role? If he is capable and at the price point that enables the project to move forward; I suggest not dwelling on it and refocus on the project.

Lets also realize what happens on some construction sites. Smoking, chew, and anyone who has done construction knows you don't open a 5 gallon bucket unless you know whats in it!!

I was house sitting a $8,000,000 home for clients once and they had some roof cleaning guys show up to pressure wash the roof. The "Supe" of the crew was talking to me in the front doorway while he spit his chewing tobacco right onto their uber-expensive blue stone main front walkway. He left a huge puddle of spit and chew and I was just too shocked to really say anything. Well, that little act cost them all future jobs on that property and will never work for anyone in the neighborhood where they could be making $4k a day cleaning roofs.

Working for rich people has taught me just how much some manual labor workers lose out on high-paying work because they can't keep from doing stupid mistakes. Like, if you are working on a planting bed and getting your boots muddy, don't walk over 200 feet of high-end flag stone or blue stone that has to be fully pressure washed after any moron walks over it with dirty boots, leaving prints. Or, don't have loud conversations yelling back and forth about offensive topics, especially when the owners are home.

Excellent post! As a full grown adult, professionalism should be practiced no matter the profession or environment. That’s what sets us apart from petulant children.

Anyone ever enter a professional office having to walk through all the hags huffing and puffing on their cigarettes on their “smoke break” out in plain view? That’s just as disgusting.

Smoking out in plain view? Oh my heavens, you poor thing! I am sorry you had to endure that.

So you think it’d be appropriate and professional say,if you were an attorney at a high end law firm and your clients had to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke, being hacked on,and dodging cigarette butts entering your office?

The environment with the smokers would be much less toxic and polluted than the one inside your hypothetical building.

You think so huh? But,your post has nothing to do with the situation. The thread is about professional image not an unsanitary environment.

Perhaps the "hags" you are so repulsed by don't actually give a flying rip what you think is a "professional image", so I'd think you are clutching your pearls for no reason. Kinda similar to Wayne the dipper in the OP. Those "hags" are just as likely to tell you to mind your own business and get bent...

Never seen this. I expect that's because most landlords have rules against that sort of thing, which designate the smoking area to an area as far from the main entrance as possible.

Sounds like your kind've women. I'm guessing you don't work in a professional environment. Most professions that require a higher education demand a certain decorum of behavior.

Construction contractors are generally low brow bums and have been for many decades now...most have no couth and many arent even good at their jobs

In rural Virginia that sort of behavior is pretty much a cultural standard, along with dumping your trash into the nearest roadside ditch.
I've seen this all over the eastern half of the country. I always wondered which came first, the garbage or the "No Dumping" sign.

This post cracks me up. I work with "Real" people. Most are Ex-Marines. If this were to be brought up with my group it would be laughed at.
We do much worse around each other. Sit in on one of our conversations and see how long it takes before you get insulted or set straight.
I have my opinion but won't post it.
