Hi,

I am seriously considering purchasing the NEW 2026 Toyota Corolla hybrid sedan and was wondering a few things...........

1. With the new recommended 0W-8 oil, will these new Toyota models STILL be just as reliable and last 250,000 miles plus, with all the scheduled
maintenance done? I keep reading that many think this oil is way to thin too protect the engine to 250,000 without major problems.

2. Does a hybrid require any other additional maintenance over the full gas model?

Thank You

If you drive like a normal person and obey the speed limit 0W-8 should be ok, but do not take my comment to the bank. I am more of a 5W-30 kind of guy. Just go with Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20 or 5W-30!

You'd probably want to budget $8--$10k for an eventual battery repair/ replacement. I've always thought that the 0W-8 is like water in consistency.

You could also simply use 0W-20 or some other grade if the 0W-8 recommendation scares you.
Toyota has an excellent track record for battery pack life in their hybrids and replacements will be available cheaply when and if needed, like for under two grand, as a quick search will reveal.

For 250,000 I'd get the ICE. If, the 250,000 is all short trips, maybe, a replacement battery would pay for itself.

There’s plenty of Toyota/Lexus hybrids that hit 250K and beyond - and a lot of them see a hard life as a taxi, Uber or Doordash.

I’m on 233K on a Prius. The parent’s RXh has 153K on it, 140K of that was hard Uber miles. All on original battery pack.

I had a 2003 Corolla and liked it a lot. It was very comfortable, got great gas mileage and was a little slow. Not too bad. My in-laws 2023 Corolla is very noisy and cheap feeling. Test drive the Corolla and a Camry to be sure you're happy with the Corolla.

Yes, I am considering the 2026 Camry LE also and will test drive.

How much do you drive?

If a corolla hybrid is as noisy and unrefined as the Internal Combustion Engine ICE Corolla Rental car I had last year you will get rid of it way before 250k.

The Camry should be way more tolerable for long term ownership.

You can technically use 0w-16, but the manual states you're supposed to go back to 0w-8 the next oil change. My MIL just purchased a 2026 Camry LE. Awesome car so far. I plan to change the oil every 5K with 0w-16, and the dealer can change the oil using the 0w8 at 10K and 20K free maintenance oil changes. The 2.5L is pretty easy on oil.

What the hell is "MIL"??

I have a non-hybrid Corolla and a hybrid Camry. My vote, hybrid Camry six days a week and twice on Sundays.

MPG savings can put a dent into a hybrid battery replacement. And those batteries can last a long time, and the eCVT's are darn near bulletproof.

But these days, anything can last 250k--as long as you are willing to repair it. But not much will do 250k without needing something. Maybe some of the older BOF truck/SUV's can/could--but you sure pay for it at the pump.
