What a great game:

TEXAS 41 - USC 38

Three bowl games that I was very pleased with.

Sooners beat the Ducks
Badgers beat the Tigers
Longhorns beat the Trojans

As a matter of fact, I was glad to see Alabama beat Texas Tech and Penn State beat Florida State.

Great bowl season, now on to the NFL

What a Bowl season!

Penn State triple overtime win.

Texas then stops a dynasty.

Great football!

That was a stupid, stupid lousy game. Poorly played and coached. The Rose Bowl just isn't the same anymore.

Not taking anything away from Texas, they won after all, but so many errors and weak coaching decisions. It was the only college bowl game I watched this year, and it was a waste of time. (even though I was doing 90 other things at the same time).

Ok - how smart was the pitch? How smart was going for it on 4th for USC in the 1st half? The refs weren't immune either. I think the month+ off without playing had some effect on the game. Texas won by pure brute strength, but I guess that's what football is all about!

Yeah, but that coach had nothing to do with that. That was all Bush and his "I am the greatest" attitude that the press gave him this year. You think he was ten foot tall and bullet proof. There were stupid mistakes made on both sides of the ball, but you got to remember, this AIN'T the NFL. Some of these kids were in high school last year. I know us die hard Sooner fans were VERY HAPPY to see USC get beat. Just wish it could have been us that beat them last year, but oh well.....
One thing that I noticed and I just don't understand....what the hel! is up with football players holding HANDS going to the coin toss in the beginning? It just don't seem right. I mean, this is the University of Texas, not University of San Fransico.....just don't seem right.

Hey Schmoe: Our Sooners and the rest of the Big 12 better hope Vince Young decides to go pro next year, or it's going to be another long season. And, it looks like those darn Cornhuskers are getting their act together again.

I'll step out on a limb and predict that next years national championship game will be teams from the Big 10 and SEC. We will see.

"how smart was the pitch?"

I'm sure the coach didn't like it. It wasn't necessary and the risk/reward ratio was unfavorable. On the other hand, Bell had a man in position, and had limited time to decide what to do. He went for "spectacular"... it almost happened. He is a fantastic player.

"How smart was going for it on 4th for USC in the 1st half?"

not too bad, and you are using post-hoc analysis. Probability of success was good and had they hit, everyone would be saying "great decision"...

Johnny....we'll be ready for them, National Champs or not. It's a Tex/OK thing. All players are born with that in their minds from the getgo.
If you noticed, Matt got whacked and acted like he was knocked out or something. I had always said this...Matt will struggle when a defense gets and stays in his face....and that's exactly what Texas did. Also, I didn't know that Pete was also the defensive coordinator. Explains why he didn't change things up from his view point. USC has always had a terrible pass rush defense. They have relied on pass coverage to combat that, but they also didn't play a team with the speed that Texas had. Out coached-pure and simple. Calling a time out on the extra point?????? No hail mary pass with 8 secs on the clock...what? Matt can't throw that far? I don't think Matt will be "all that" in the NFL draft. Texas exposed his weakness and it's the kind weakness that NFL teams won't pay out the megabucks for. Like Jason White of OU. Nobody wanted to take a chance on his knees, and rightfully so. But Matt has been protected for too long. He can't run effectively and is not use to being pressured.
Their attitude killed them.

Schmoe, I agree with you.
They showed up like the title was going to be handed to them without playing the game. Like, Miami in the peach.

While I wanted to see USC, or any non Florida or Texas team, win, they shot themselves in the foot. Not taking care of Vince Young, going for 4th & 2 near the end of the game, and under-utilizing Bush were some of the problems. Poor officiating (the mis-call in the 1st where Texas caught the ball on one knee & ran for a TD) didn't help, either.

In spite of it all, USC lost the game themselves more than Texas winning it.

IMHO, of course.

OK OK I've watched too much NFL this year!

I still think both those USC plays were just dumb.

USC deserved to lose that game. USC decided to stay in that defense for the entire game????? Where is the spy for Vince? How about a couple of different fronts instead of 4 down lineman? Pete Carrol defensive genius my a**! How about the 3rd and 14 in the 4th quarter and not blitzing.
