concerns about AI; what scares me

If we know for a fact ( which apparently we do), that AI will lie and cheat, why are we continuing down this path?
So that we can replace interns jobs of drafting reports and emails?

FIRST, LET’S UNDERSTAND THAT NOTHING IS GOING TO STOP AI and that will be to Americans benefit because of the rest of the world, including our enemies are working on it just as hard.

With that said to give you an idea on how out of control things can get. An experimental artificial intelligence contained and sandboxed at OpenAI which fot those that don’t know is ChatGPT.

The experimental AI on its own, escaped its sandbox, got onto the Internet and invaded another company’s artificial intelligence by hacking into it. It did this completely autonomously.

While being tested internally on their hacking capabilities in an enclosed digital laboratory known as a sandbox, the models gained open internet access – effectively an escape route – by locating a vulnerability that had not been discovered before.

The agent then hacked Hugging Face, which is a database of AI models, to locate technology that would help it pass the hacking evaluation, having “inferred” that Hugging Face might have the models, datasets and solutions for passing the test. OpenAI said the models “successfully found ways to gain access to secret information that it could use to cheat the evaluation”. The attack ended when Hugging Face’s security team and its own AI agents spotted and stopped the rogue activity.”

That is one goal.
I know that eventually AI can do a lot more. Right now at my job, it runs customer facing chats, using a database that we put together for it. Many of us use it to edit emails and presentations, or create same. AI created reports, emails , and presentations need to be edited by the person responsible for the output, as there still may be errors in fact or tone. Which is why I likened it to an intern, who can get you the basic document, but whose work has to be thoroughly checked before passing it up the chain of command.
Seems like very little benefit for an enormous risk. If the autonomy and lack of integrity can’t be eliminated, how can AI “run” anything important?
Want to see what happens when AI is used in military settings? Watch the Star Trek episode “ The Ultimate Computer”.

I aksed Chatgpt to count some light fixtures for me on one sheet of plans. Miserable fail. What a simple task and it couldnt even do that, How can this stuff replace people? Somebody would have to check everything done by AI.

Well known, AI can't count objects.

Many companies fully on board with AI. My wife's company has been at the forefront for a while now. Is activity encouraged to make full use of it.
Military uses? Already in widespread use, Big business?, Medical? the same and for all of this we are only at the very rudimentary stages of what is yet to come.

There will be bad actors from our enemies and bad actors from AI too. Interesting times coming in the next ten years.

I use it to talk about lawnmowers. Nobody else in my life wants to.

I've had good success with uploading some base code and prompting Copilot to examine error code I'm getting, possible causes. It pinpoints in 30 seconds what used to take me a week.
