Decided to treat the old girl to some fresh plugs today. NGK platinum's. Figured might as well to a compression check when all the plugs were out.

For those who have not seen my earlier posts on this truck.

It's a 1997 Chevy Silverado extended cab 5.7, auto. 167k miles. I've only had it for a couple of months.

My brother gave it to me. He really didn't do any maint. on it. And no records from the previous/original owner. Original owner used it tow his ski boat. I think he had a couple of teenage boys, who I'm sure ran it hard any chance they got.

Compression is as follows. Engine cold, throttle not held open.

1 190 2 191
3 195 4 192
5 190 6 197
7 190 8 191

Old plugs were AC Delco's Not bad looking, a little oily/carbon build up. Truck really needs an Italian tune up. I just put around in it.

Thoughts???

those are excellent numbers for 167000 miles, i would fathom a guess that the truck hasn't seen a lot of hard miles.

I've checked many a compression over the years and with that type of mileage I would expect a larger spread and less compression, especially cold with the throttle plate not closed and no oil squirted into the cylinders. Very impressive!
