Previously, I've been a huge fan of Sandboxie and browser/system vitalization. However, Sandboxie was just bought by another company and they aren't putting out updates fast enough to respond to program conflicts, of which, the new version of flash player makes sandboxed flash video unusable. So I ditched it along with Avira free, went back to Avast, I added the malware domain list to Adblockplus (you can get it here: https://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions), I installed Zemena antikeylogger, and installed the standalone Norton identity safe/toolbar, which is really unobtrusive and provides another layer of protection for free. I actually am learning to like it as it's a great password/credit car/banking log in manager and it also provides malacious website checking. Overall, this is the best setup I've had! Sandboxie I didn't realize was causing major slowdowns and this setup is quite fast and hopefully secure.

The best security is obscurity. Don't log into stuff you don't need, and if you're going to be browsing a new neighborhood on the web, then set up a virtual machine and checkpoint it so when you're finished you can revert and flush all the tracking stuff away.

Seriously! Oracle just put out a huge security update for Java.

might want to up your game when one of the FAR antivirus deals come around. I'm not paying 40$

but I think a good antivirus for 5-10$ for a year is worth it.

Eset finds so much garbage that the free ones dont.

You can usually get Free after rebate deals also.

on the recent computer I worked on the free eset online scanner found 37 more malware .. after I ran malwarebytes and MSE in safe mode.

@Rand..

you seem to really like eset and i do too i use the online scanner often,my question to you is im looking on newegg at two different softwares one is the 10.99 one you posted about in another thread but no DL software only, the other is a new deal 14.99 with promo, it looks like they do different types of protection, what is the better one you think and is it a good deal?

14.99

10.99 but software only

it seems like the 14.99 one will provide more area of protection,,sorry to the OP dont mean to hijack.

I am using ESET now too, just the Antivirus version. A few weeks ago I had problems with Avast so I changed to the free version of AVG. I thought everything was OK until yesterday when my MBAM Pro alerted me to 2 PUPs that I had never heard of, they were called "outbrowse" and "pup.optional.smart". I did a scan with AVG and it found nothing. Scanned twice with MBAM and selected delete on close and the PUPs came back on reboot.

So I used the free ESET scanner, it not only found the PUPs but also found a total of 6 suspicious malware files. The scanner completely eliminated all of it. That was enough for me to make the switch to ESET. I did scans with ESET and MBAM and both came back clean as a whistle and my computer is running very fast. I am running the free trial version for now and hope to find a good deal on it for my PC and wife's laptop in the next few weeks.

ESET is said to be the best of the paid AV's. I should have listened long ago when I saw it being recommended so highly here and other boards too. After the trouble I have had with the free AV's I am just going to get ESET at the best price I can find and be done with it.

The 2nd link is last year's version of the same product. They provide the same protection and you can download the current version with the purchase of the older product without issue.

you can usually find the 3 license for nearly FAR also if you need more than one copy.

as overkill mentioned with the 2013 version.. you can still download and install the 2014 version.

in fact their install cd is merely a link to go download it.

usually around 70MB + first update

kaspersky is also decent its abit heavier on resources and the download is around 200MB+update

technically you dont have to wait.

download and install do the free trial.

then when your disk comes in a few days. activate it with the key.

I'm just wondering where you're browsing that's causing such issues...

Main stream sites get compromised all the time with various script based malware attacks that compromise newly discovered browser/java/flash vulnerabilities. Better to be safe IMO.
