Compare a few oils for me please?

OK, so I'm looking at a few different oils that're on sale right now, and can't find a ton of information in the oil analysis section. Ignoring price, what is the better oil, and why:


Valvoline Maxlife or Maxlife NextGen
Mobil Super High Mileage
Napa Full Synthetic


Will be using it in a roller cam V8, so ZDDP levels aren't an issue, but some Moly might be helpful to reduce ring wear over time? I can't find much info to compare any of them with, and lets all just assume the same weights for comparisons sake. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
 
I would use the Mobil Super HM.It seems that Maxlife has reduced/removed the moly in it.The Mobil has titanium in it,it is used to replace zinc that has been removed becsuse of gov. standards.

I have used the Mobil High Mileage,it is a synthetic blend.The titanium makes an oxide that coats the metal parts and makes them resistant to wear.
 
The NextGen Maxlife is a really good looking oil, that would be my choice, has some Moly in it. I think it is on its way to stay. Also you have to think Valvoline (Ashland) is not taking this venture lightly, so I expect the quality control of the Green bottle is very strict. I really was close to buying it but AutoZone has SN Durablend on sale for the same price but with a Mobil 1 filter. The durablend 5w30 is also Dexos1 approved (not officially licensed but backs up the warranty) so if that makes a difference to you it is probably the best bang for your buck.

stop being cheap. Mobil 1 High Mileage is dam good oil, pay just a few dollar more well worth it.

Whats the deal with Durablend, I've seen alot of talk about it lately, but can't find much actual information about it.
 
From what I remember in typical valvoline fashion it turns in low wear numbers in used oil analysis. Also, the 10w30 used to have the lowest volatility number for a conventional 10w30.

That sounds great for a new vehicle but does it work in an older one when there is some varnish/deposits on metal parts? In that application I would choose the NAPA full synthetic if it has the best every-day price.
 
Well, I sent an email last night t Valvoline asking for any specs they're willing to give. I've read rumors that the add pack in Maxlife is being reduced, that it might not be a syn blend anymore, etc., and s far nobody's been able to confirm anything. Does anybody know if there are any VOA's for the Napa Syn? I can't find any to compare with.

Thats awesome, thanks a bunch! It's a few years old, but I'm going to assume ti's probably still fairly accurate? The additive pack looks fairly weak.

Are either/both of the new MaxLife's still synthetic blends? If so, it looks like the MaxLife would be a better oil then than the Napa full synthetic? I'm guessing here based on my limited knowledge of breaking down VOA/used oil analysis, so please - somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Well, I found Data Sheets on Valvoline's site for both Maxlife & Maxlife NextGen:

From what ti appears, they look to be very similar. When looking at the 5w30, the NextGen has a slightly lower TBN, more calcium, and significantly more Moly.


*However - according to the papers, thats SM/Sl Maxlinfe, and SM/SN Maxlife NextGen. Is all the current on the shelf Maxlife SM still? If there is a new, SN rated Maxlife, then that may change as well.
 
I'm a tard and can't read, the regular MaxLife has more moly. I also just found MaxLife Synthetic, $21/5 quart jug. Is it worth the $5 over the regular syn-blend MexLife?
 
FWIW, I also got a .pdf today of the Napa full synthetic from Valvoline tech support. Not sure how to post it here though.
 
Comparing Mobil's new data sheet to the old, I see they have boosted P & Zn in the High Mileage oils. Used to be 900 & 1000. Now it's 1000 & 1100.
