I have always been a little leery of the nitrile combo valves. If it wasn't for them, I would probably use Super Tech filters. As is, I usually opt for Fram instead. Am I just being paranoid??? Are they just as good as the more conventional base end bypass?

Not all the Super Tech filters are combo valves.
The Super Tech2 is, I have on that I was going to use on my next oil change on the truck.
Combo valves do work, just not the best design for what they do.
For my truck, I am not that worried about it, it should work for my needs.
Anything more than a 5000 mile OCI, I would not use one.

Arco, what problems specifically?

All of the manufacturers would love to use a combination valve to save money but they haven't figured it out yet and using nitrile is a problem for long term heat cycles since it can harden

I have used a bunch of the Wix made Napa Silver version and they worked great for me. I also tried an ecore with a different design combo valve and it was awful, would not hold the oil up at all even in summer, causing terrible start up rattle in my Jeep.

The Wix made ones seem to work okay anyway. The Wix made filters with their combo valve have very low efficiency though, so over time I moved to Silvers with thread end bypasses or other filters.
