Cummins (Fleetguard) sells a LF9028 filter for their pickup truck diesel engines that is a combo. On the surface it would seem to be an ideal filter. The full flow section is smaller than if the entire filter was full flow. But its a very large filter in the first place.
In addition its slightly better to have the bypassed oil back into the oil flow going to the engine than to just dump it into the pan.
