color of PYB

I use Pennzoil Conventional and came across some old post of people discussing the color as compared to other brands. Got bored and dumped a little on a white paper plate, and then dumped some valvoline I had which I use in the lawnmower... The Valvoline is quite a bit lighter in color. I know enough that it makes no difference at all in the quality...but does Pennzoil use a different add pack that makes it darker?

Castrol GTX is also a darker oil. I guess different add packs,I dunno. Valvoline VR1 is more of a flourescent yellow color when new.

Amsoil ASL is pretty near clear, FWIW. In fact, I had a heck of a time even seeing it on my dipstick until I dimpled it with a centerpunch.

I`ve also noticed that about Amsoil`s gear oils. VERY pure and clear looking.

It seem to me maybe 10 years ago it started looking darker than I remembered it. Would they have changed sometime in the last 20 years to a darker one?

...speaking of 'additive packages', who makes the best?

I know that Infineum makes some good ones as well as Lubrizol and Oronite.

Maybe its my eyes, but the first time I saw 5W-20 on a dipstick it looked unnatural - almost a glowing yellow...

as far as Pennzoil Conventional being darker, its all of the melted candles!
(just kidding, I'm running Pennzoil Conventional in my Toyota right now. just dont tell the Valvoline 300k warranty folks...)
