I'm a big fan of Zaino, but I've recently started to want more depth to the shine. I'm thinking about getting some Collinite #476s and putting it on top of a Zaino finish.

I've also heard that this wax is very resistant to bird droppings, which Zaino is not, and I spend a week or more offshore with my car exposed to the critters.

Wondering if anyone has tried this.

I don't top Zaino with anything, but you might want to wait to try the new Z5 Pro when it's released. Word is that it'll be out in 3-4 weeks. Reviews have raved about it better capturing the warmth and depth of carnauba along with improved filling properties.

I've never had a problem with bird doo affecting the paint on a z-sealed car, but then I check my paint daily and remove any that I find.

I can't always check my paint daily. I'm almost out of Z5, and the Impala needs a claybar, so this comes at a good time.

I've seen a lot of rave reviews of Collinite though. Collinite users seem as loyal as Zaino users.

Guess I'll wait for the new Z5, put a couple of coats of that on and see how it looks. If it still does not have the depth, then I'll try the Collinite as a topper. Heck, maybe I can do the waxing once a year with both products combined.

At least I have the Miata to experiment on. It's 1/3rd the work to wax it.

I'm not sure how using both products will work, but I have been sold on Collinite for several years. On my vehicles, one application every six months is all they need for good, basic protection. The wax is just wearing out when I put on the next application (even with high-pressure car washes).

This product also goes aloooong way. A small dab is all that's needed to do individual body parts (hood, roof, etc) if you moisten the applicator first. And the best part... bugs normally come off with a spray from the garden hose.

I've never tried more than one layer to see if it adds depth, but I may try it now just to see. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've been using Collinte for a while and I'm extremely happy with it. Relatively easy to apply and after 6 months it's still beading extremely well. One application in late October and one in late April and all is well.
And I don't find the smell to be funky.

Cool, time to order.

I've been told you can get Collinite at NAPA. Have not looked yet.

Just got mine today and can confirm that it's the new stuff--white cap and purple product. The woman who took my order also said that the Lenexa warehouse only has Z5 Pro, so no worries that you'll mistakenly receive the previous formulation. Can't quite place the smell yet, but it smells good.

I actually saw some Collinite at NAPA last weekend when I was there picking up some 3M Perfect-It III products. Don't know if they are what you're looking for but some of the product line was there.

You can find Collinite 845 at Advance Auto Parts. They have it in the marine section.

I just looked on the Zaino website before I came on here, and I didn't see Z5 Pro. I'm ready to try if for sure.

The only place I have seen Collinte for sale is on the internet -- is that where you guys are getting it?

That's where I get mine. I didn't know that NAPA and Advance Auto carried it. I'll check them next time I need some.

You have to order Z5. Apparently Sal is still using the remainder of the Z5 labels. Don't worry, you'll get Z5 Pro so long as you order from the Zaino store. It should look like the bottle in the pic in the link I posted above.

Something to consider is that the Zaino magic elixers are all formulated to work and bond together, or so the story goes.

I tend to believe that, so I don't use dissimilar coatings on top of Zaino. YMMV

I tried my closest Advance Auto last night -- no Collinite and no marine section -- but then I am not anyplace close to enough water to have a marine section. Guess I'll try NAPA next.

Well, I tried Advance, Napa, Pep Boys, Autozone, and Oreilly. Noone had it, so I ordered it today. I'm going to put a coat of the new Z5 on, which will make 3 coats total, and then two coats of 476S on top.

Zaino may be designed to work with other Zaino products, but I'm wanting a little something extra. Hoping this will give me that.

Just by chance I tried another Advance store today. The first employee I questioned had no idea about Collinite – but another said: "What about this?" They had it. I suspect the first store might have had it too -- just employees who don't know their stock.
BTW: It was not on the shelves with all the waxes. It was right beside the cash registers. Almost like behind the counter in a plain brown wrapper.

Thanks for your help guys.

Got my Z-5Pro and Collinite #476s in today. Just finished the 2000 Miata and I, and the rest of my family, were simply blown away.

I had clayed and Z1ed the car, then applied 2 coats of Z5 old version a while back.

Today I put one coat of Z-5Pro on, then Z6ed it. It was a definite improvement over the old Z5, but still was lacking in the depth I was looking for.

I then put on a coat of Collinite #476S on top of all that and there it was, the depth I had been looking for. There was no loss in Zaino shine, but the depth was simply incredible. It looked like Zaino with depth. I Z6ed it for the extra gloss and sat back and drooled.

Don't know about the other Collinites, but the 476s smells fine to me.

I can't wait to do it to the 2006 Miata, but I have to travel to go offshore tomorrow. Maybe next weekend.

I don't even want to think about the Impala. It's at square one. Clayed, but no polish on it whatsoever, and it really needs compounding. I can do both Miatas quicker than the Impala...

Well, I did the same treatment to our 2006 Miata, and the results, on the brand new paint, were even more incredible than on the 6 year old 2000 Miata.

One thing that I discovered is that this wax seems to need a 24 hour cure time, and then a wash, to bring out it's ultimate beaty.

I drove about 800 miles over the course of a week, washing bugs off of the front end twice, and then washing the car saturday. I was pleasantly suprised to see the finish looking even deeper and more fluid like.

I put another coat of 476 on the 2000 Miata, and the finish was about where it had been before washing.

I then put a coat of 476 on the 2006 Miata, which had a coat of Z5 and a coat of Z5 pro on it. It gave that same warm, deep glow to the Copper red paint.

Sunday night I washed them both, and both cars looked even better, almost looking like candy color paints. My fiance was very impressed with the finish on her car.

I'm very happy with it, and am now going to settle back to see how long the finish lasts.

One of the big pluses is that the Collinite appears to be completely impervious to bird bombs, which the Zaino was not. I left a bird bomb on the paint 24 hours, and when washed off, the finish still looked and beaded like before.

I also plan on doing a 2000 Expedition, with Collinite only, to see how it looks on a light blue car.
