Howdy all - for most of my driving life I've owned "fleet" type cars since I drove so much for my job. Used sedans with low cost of ownership. I would probably run them through a brushless car wash 2 or 3 times a year.

Recently I picked up a black 09 Mazda6 V6 Touring. Great car. This one I'm gonna keep washed and waxed.

I have very little experience hand washing and waxing cars but based on what I've already absorbed here, I plan to wash the car with Meguiar's Gold Class & Griot's Garage Micro Fiber Mitt, dry with a waffle weave microfiber towel, then wax with Collinite 845 in preparation for winter.

Now this may be a dumb question but - should I wax the windshield and other glass? To my mind it would help shed rain and snow.

Thanks in advance.

The windshield wipers will not work well on a waxed surface. They'll smear, skip, and chatter.

Better idea for maximum windshield-clearing is to claybar the glass. Lots of built up stuff on there for sure.

I've waxed my windshields and had no chatter or skipping. More problems with keeping inside clean than outside. 845 is what I use

Thin application and making sure it's dry before buffing is important.

Wouldn't you want to use Rain-x on the glass and Collinite on the paint?
Or claybar the glass as dparm said. It sure would be clean and dry then.

Agreed. Rain X is an ok solution for helping to reduce stuff sticking to glass. Not saying you can't apply wax to glass, just saying there may be a better choice. Try both and see what works for you.

Over on AutoGeek it seems like some people use it on their glass.

Personally I put Klasse AIO on there and left it at that. I have Aquapel, but from what I've read on AG, it would be a waste to put the Aquapel over the AIO.

Thanks all for the feedback. I'm gonna skip waxing the glass and clean with Invisible Glass then clay bar and leave it at that.

Clay bar it for sure.
If you want to go an extra step, hit it with a random polisher and some rubbing compound. This can smooth the glass enough to get rid of water spots, etc.

Waxing the glass won't hurt anything, just don't do the front windshield. You can also use RainX, just don't use both. I prefer to use RainX on all the glass after claying. Some don't like the effects on the windshield due to wiper chatter, but that might be application specific.
