Well I am a new member, but a long time reader. After a lot of research and reading I have come up with a resolution to my driving habits and would like my fellow members to verify or alter my observations.
-2010 Toyota Tundra 5.7 Liter
-Factory recommendation 0w-20 or 5w-20
-I drive short periods (2 miles to the grocery store) or very long periods(70 miles on the way home)
-I usually do drive rough and drive at high speeds (PSL is at least 70MPH)
-have use dino Toyota genuine oil for the first 10000 miles
- I live in south Texas, very hot in the summer(95-110) and fairly chilly in the winter (20-45)

I have decided to go with mobil 1 0w-20 w/ toyota oil filter and 5000 OCI/6 Months. I will probably drive 13000 miles a year. What do yall think? Thanks guys!

5-20 grade oil defenentally. 5k OCI is what I would do to maintain your warranty. As for the brand any oil that meets the specs in your book will go 5k with absolutely no problems. Filter, I would use whatever bargain filter you can get for 5k the filter makes little difference, even can go online to ebay and probably find a case of toyota filters for 38 bucks with free shipping.

Reason I say 5-20 is for the warm summers in Texas.

I think that would be just fine while the truck is under warranty. After that, if the driving habits are still the same, I would try 10-12K or one year.

Does the Yota warranty specifically state a 20 needs to be used to keep the warranty valid?

If not I personally would go for a 30 weight for the warmer months and the 20 weight for the cooler.

Toyota is very picky with the warranty, I would not use 30 if its not listed in the owners manual, if it is i'd be all over it.

Check your manual first. If it allows it then use it, but if it says anything to the extent that warranty will only be honored when a 20 weight is used then stick to the 20. Because you don't want to have issues with Yota denying warranty should your engine fail (it would be rare, but why risk it).

The 5W-20 will work great even in South Texas. Believe it or not, the oil really does not know what part of the country it's in or what engine it's in.

Good plan the syn will protect you well, give you added protection against your heat and added cold flow performance in your cold weather days.

Make sure you keep your receipts. Stop by an office supply store and pickup a file folder that closes for all of your maintenance receipts and service records from the dealerships. It may save you in the long run. Enjoy the truck.

The more oil the better. It may seem like a pricer route. But a bigger sump is always better.

5w20 Motorcraft holds up very well in Miami jungle heat and nightmare traffic...The OCI's are every 5K miles.

Your drive about the average per year so your fine with that.

If you want to stick with the Toyota brand I think it's good stuff cuz I read it has allot of moly for good gas mileage. If you want to use M1 in the same weight then your covered cuz when I had my 89' Camry the dealership used Mobil 1 as an alternate.

Do you really need to use 0W-20 oil???? I'd just stay with the 5W myself. Their's not much difference between the two.

20-45 degrees is not cold at all.

Personally I'd use ANY 5w-20 and you'll be fine with the truck. We have a fleet of the Toyotas and if they get their oil changed every 7,500 they are doing well. They get beat on and we have many nearing 200k and most above 100k. My 2007 has close to 75k on it and runs like a top.

Ow-20 is NOT needed at all. Esp for your temps.

Don't need syn oil for 5,000 mile 6 mo oil change intervals sorry to say.

Is the truck going tow??

if so thats severe service and some good hot oil temps she's going to see a syn will protect better,there's good deals on synthetics too,may want to consider that.
