I have said many times peole ask me about our Model 3. The 1st thing I ask them is, "How ya gonna charge?" Sure, Tesla has a vast Supercharger network, but if you cannot charge at home (and have 240V capability) IMO you have no business owning a Tesla. Supercharger costs are higher and who wants to go somewhere just to charge? That's worse than an ICE vehicle going to a gas station due to dwell time.
Some areas offer other charging opportunites, such as charging while at work for a subsidized rate or even free, but that is pretty specialized.
Bottom line; If I could not charge at home, I would not own an EV. Solar panels sweeten the deal, of course.
I cannot speak to other makes, but Tesla batteries last a long time; it is probably too early to have sufficient data but Tesla batteries should still have 90% capacity after 200K.
Now other EVs, such as the early Nissan Leaf, had horrible rentension.
