CNBC : Why Tire Companies Love E.V.s'

I deal with people for a living. I could write not only a book, but a series. A long series.
Same here, I could write a series of novels. What I learned from many decades of dealing with the public and selling to them, is most/all buyers are liars, and denial is a very powerful defense mechanism. Along with a slew of other very useful information which has helped me tremendously over the years.

Not so kind to the environment when in need of more tire replacement . Video included .

Heftier vehicles also contribute to more damage to roads in need of repair or replacement . Another minus for the environment . I'll stick to lighter hybrid or fuel effecient vehicle .

Why is it that everyone thinks EVs are about the environment? I just like the way they drive, with instant torque on tap.

And yes, my parents just bought new tires for their 2022 ID.4 with 32K miles.

As for tearing up the roads, have you seen construction vehicles nowadays?

Pretty much. I could care less about hugging a tree. Stomping a mudhole in a Corvette is much more fun.

When there are more E.V.s being charged on the power grid ( nuclear , natural gas , coal ) electric bills will likely rise like that of the oil / fuel industry .
When there are more E. V. s being charged on the power grid, eventually it won't be able to sustain the demand. Especially in the summer. California wants to implement a tax on electric cars since they can't get them for a gas tax for road repair fund. In the Northeast, they want to charge a congestion tax to people. Weird how we came over on the Mayflower to get away from the issues, taxes and tyranny only to see it here now.

I'm not for or against anything, but I don't think the enthusiasm of these "green" cars are as real as people say. It was more like a trend at first and now the reality is coming to light. Someone needs to invent liquid portable electricity containers as eventually they will run out of juice in a unsure time. Until then, get a petrol powered Honda Generator to bail them out of a pinch.

Corvette, especially this new look has seen a lot of wrecks. This new engine configuration is something new to corvettes and their fan base is used to FR setup. Now, MR they are having to catch up with learning the cars physics like all the Italian cars, Porsche RR, and MR2 & NSX. Got me thinking, all these E. V. cars will ruin the SEMA and aftermarket parts companies. Won't need a Borla exhaust or headers on a Tesla.. or will you? Apparently they make a kit to give the electric car "sound". It must be the most boring car to drive. I would rather have a 91 Honda CRX Si with a 5 speed and 5,000$ in performance parts than a Tesla. It's the fun factor and regardless how fast the energizer car is, it's fun factor is almost none.

The vast majority of EV charging is done at night, during low load and cheaper rates.
But you make a good point; increased demand leads to business opportunity and solution. Look at me, I did a solar project due to high CA energy costs and thinking that I might get an EV one day. Little did I know it would be soon after the solar project completion. Now my electricity and driving fuel costs are minimized and I give a lot of energy back to the grid especially at high load times.

Win win and will be even better as the long overdue CA grid updates are made. Hopefully EV charging will help incentivise the upgrades.

Just don’t put on EV specific tires back onto your EV the next time you need tires. There are a lot of heavy vehicles on the road that don’t wear out their tires quickly as the article states. However by installing non specific EV tires on your EV, the tires should last longer to a more normal expectation. Keep in mind that you may not get the full mileage range out of your battery due to extra drag. But too, isn’t this what LRR tires are for?
Nope I have already seen people do that. Putting those non EV tires on an EV is wearing them out even faster.

Slap a few hundred dollars additional road tax on them and it will definitely turn more people off to them.

Nobody seems to be for the elimination of tractor trailers. A lot of that freight can go by rail.
A lot does go by rail but the tractor trailers are still needed to get the containers from the train station to distribution center. Port cities like the one I live in see this all the time. From the big container ships to trains and trucks and off to the consumer.

I worked in logistics my entire career.

In the case of Milwaukee a lot of this stuff did go by intermodal to Chicago, but Hunter Harrison(absolute pile of a human being, IYKYK) shut all of this down which vastly increased the amount of trucks to and from Milwaukee and Chicago.

Most places already have a $100-$300 road tax. It's $200 a year here in Wisconsin.
Yep, and it is not equitable, at least here in sunny CA, because you pay the same if you drive 10 miles per year or 20K. And you would have to drive like 20K to consume the road tax. I think the EV road tax is something over $100 per year paid at registration; I forget.

I definitely pay way more than my share at $200 a year for around 6,000 miles.

Its not ruining aftermarket. Now its making Americans think more European. Learn to wedge a suspension. The power is already there. Focus is on chassis.
