Cloudy residue in new oil bottle

I changed the oil today in my prizm and when I went to add the new oil (QS ADV synthetic) I noticed a cloudy residue build up along the bottom edge on one side of the bottle. I assumed that this was probably some of the additive and I tried (fairly successfully) to slosh the oil around in the bottle and mix it back in. I'm wondering though if the oil is still safe to use and if it is, if it will hold up for a normal OCI?

One thought I had, if it were not Quaker State in the clear bottle I never would have even known about the residue.

Thoughts?

'Mystery' residue occurs here and there. Even in rather new bottles.
Common sense tells me it's additives, but who knows in all cases?
Plain old debris from the mfrg. plant?

+1 and will have no effect on the oil at least from the tech people I've spoken with. I learned to shake everything before I pour it into my engine. This way I have nothing settled into the bottle.

Shake it up, pour it in. Additive fallout. I've seen it at the bottom of most of my PP jugs which were less than a year old. Use it with confidence.

Do you mean it's gonna melt again and not clog up the oil filter once heated up?

I've seen it in just about every oil except NAPA conv (Ashland) and XOM Supertech. These oils are very light in color, which leads me to believe that the dye in the darker oil settles out a little. Nothing to worry about, IMO.

I realize that modern oil has additives to stop foaming, but don't you think that falling oil hitting a crankshaft spinning at 3K will aerate the oil just a little bit?

If something is settling out, this is just another reason to not use quick lube shops because what you get out their 55 gallon drum may be either all additive or all base stock with no additives.

I doubt it is that extreme. The only way that that much would fall out would be if the additive is very close to saturated and then if the oil is stored at a very low temp for a long time.
