Anything more than 1 ounce in CA and the car is getting towed.

Anyway, I find it strange that a few of my friends think that I'm making a big deal out of nothing.

Exactly why you let the stoned guy keep driving.

The stoner is used to driving while stoned, Michael not so much. As I said, I'd get out.

Although, there was one incident in which I was given a tour of Cape Cod. My two "guides" turned out to be serious tokers. Now, there was nary any traffic and the car went never over 30 mph, so I didn't follow my own advice, and I live to tell the smelly tale. I was also only 19, so keep that in mind. Anyway, at one point my stoned driver pointed at the car in front of us and said about the passenger, "Whoa, guys, look at that chick. She's UGLY!" Only thing was, it wasn't a girl, but an Afghan Hound with long hair sitting in the passenger seat! I said, "That's a dog, Daryl!" Daryl didn't believe it and went off on some rant about dogs. The whole tour took about 5 hours, and my two guides smoked maybe 10 joints or so. We were in a Jeep with soft top and I did manage to get some fresh air, but not much. When we stopped for lunch, we had fish&chips. Dude at the next table was smoking weed, too.

You're right, they weren't stoners. They were "gotta get off by whatever means necessary" types. No weed ..alcohol would do ..or whatever they could get their hands on.

About 20 years ago, I had a friend whose father was a bad alcoholic (since sobered up). He was going out to a ranch to see the horses he bred/sold as a business, and my friend and I went with him. He'd had a couple of drinks that morning, so we still thought it was okay to go with him.

While at the ranch with his business partners, he polished off another 8-10 drinks, and was hammered by the time it was getting close to time to leave. My friend and I were scared to be driving with him, so we decided we were safer to walk the 10 or so miles back to his house than rish driving with him. So about an hour before he left, we started for home, vowing that no-matter what, we wouldn't drive with him.

About an hour or so later, he met up with us on the road, insisting we get in the truck, and stop being foolish. We said, no, we're better off out here. He laughed at us, and took off, swerving all over the road. About a half-hour after that, my buddy's mom came flying up the road in her car, apologizing non-stop about what had happened. She divorced him soon after that.

Truth is, my buddy and I had a great time on that walk, talking, enjoying the rural scenery...it was great. I still remember it fondly.

If you got pulled over you would have been seperated and questioned individually as to why you were in the car.

If you said "I was carpooling to save gas" I cannot imagine the cop's reaction.

The other two could have played boyfriend and girlfriend, shared a prearranged story, and said you were their contact to go find more pot from a dealer you knew down there.

So, yeah, good thing you got through it. Am sure if you drove you'd be going exactly the speed limit and eyes wide like saucers if you saw a cop... both arousing suspicion.

All this talk about weed reminds me of an unfortunate incident that I was involved in, back when I was a younger lad.

A "friend" and I were cruising the local teenage hotspots one Saturday night. We had both had a couple of beers, and had a couple more in the car with us (stupid). We stopped at the local Mickey D's for a bite, and on the way out my "friend" made a smart-arse remark (for NO reason) to a guy sitting at a table near the door. If that wasn't stupid enough for him to do, it didn't help matters that the guy was sitting with his entire softball team, that had just finished a game. Dooooh!!! The guy proceeds to follow my idiot friend and me outside. Without many words exchanged, Mr. softball begins beating my friend pretty good. I decided to intervene, and had to handle two of the softball guys. I put an end to the fight. That should have been the end of things. Idiot and I get into our car to leave, only to see flashing blue lights in the rear view. Apparently, the McDonalds manager called the po-po.

After being handcuffed and stuffed into Barney's cruiser, the officers begin a search of my "friend's" car. It was actually a loaner; the car belonged to my "friend's" girlfriend's Mother. The officer retrieves from the trunk a LARGE brown paper grocery bag FULL OF Mary J. Oh [censored]!!! This is turning ugly in a hurry. My friend and I get hauled off to the clink, where we spend the evening being interrogated by the narcotics investigators.

Believe it or not, neither of us were charged with anything on the weed, since it was not ours and we had no knowledge of it. We were both charged only with illegal alcohol possession. The most challenging part was figuring out how to get out of the clink without calling my Mother. My "friend" had someone who owed him a favor, and he bailed us both out.

That whole situation could have been much worse. I ended my friendship with stupid after that little incident.

Or were you hanging your head out the window for 100 miles?

Close call? I think you're exaggerating the level of danger in the situation. I'll agree that the desire to drive while hotboxing indicates a lack of personal responsibility on the driver's part.

There's no evidence that marijuana interferes with driving. For seasoned tokers, it's no more dangerous than driving sober. I'm not recommending that people do it, just throwing that out there. It's not like alcohol, which makes a complete mess of your motor skills. It's a completely different kind of buzz.

It is good you didn't drive. You would have been putting yourself in a much worse situation if you got pulled over.

I have driven high (on MJ only). I'm not going to say that I drive better, but I do go the speed limit, I use my signals, and I generally don't get as worked up over what other drivers do. It affects each person differently though, and I can't speak for everyone. Again, I'm not advising people to go out and try it. I will say that I am much less concerned about people driving stoned (on MJ) than I am about drunk drivers.

For the record, for people who don't have much or any experience with marijuana, a lot of stoners are just regular people. I have smoked my fair share and I am a good student, model employee, and generally not a menace to society. If you came across me on the street without having read this post, you would never know that I smoke (even if I was high). People are quick to assume all smokers are dysfunctional because those are the only ones they see...you don't notice the functional smokers.

Isn't that a quote by Tommy Chong?

The want to get an artificial high shows all by itself dysfunction. The need shows addiction. Don't tell me a guy who can't tell a dog from a human should be driving.

It isn't a "need," at least not for me. But yes, I do enjoy it.

If the guy you were riding with really mistook a dog for a human, he was on something other than just MJ. MJ, no matter how much you smoke, will not cause hallucinations or other visuals.
