Clevite 77 cam guard prelube

I read a Hot Rod article about using GM's EOS on breaking in a new flat tappet cam. The article then when on to say to use the 4 oz bottle of GM's cam and bearing prelube with every oil change. I have heard of using the EOS at very oil change to increase the zinc but this is the first I've heard of the cam lube. Anywho, I have a friend who gets the Clevite 77 cam guard lube pretty cheap. It has extreme pressure additives. Would this be the same as adding the GM cam lube as indicated in the Hot Rod article.
I can't seem to find what all is in the Clevite lube.

Another question. Many people are using the 16 oz. bottle EOS additive at oil change for extra zinc with there flat tappet cam. The GM parts man told me that GM does not recommend the EOS as an oil additive after initial break in. Does anybody know why? He didn't.

Not really but close.

Afterall: all cam lube and EOS contain EP additives which aid the breaking in of cam.

Not sure how effective it would be for maintaing engine/cam wear though.

4oz would probably not upset anything. But 16oz may play havoc with the original oil chemistry. More is not always better.

Are you dealing with aftermarket high lift/profile cam on your car? Or is it just a straight OE cam replacement?

If it's aftermarket cam and you worry about flat tappet wear, use additives. If it's a straight OE replacement/swap, you just need to add/use EOS or Cam lube during initial breakin period.

Its a Comp Cam Xtreme energy 274 cam. Cam is already broke in and I have about 5000 miles on the motor. Just wondering if the Clevite cam lube is the same as the GM cam lube recommended in the Hot Rod article(to add at scheduled oil changes)

I think I would use SX-UP additive at 8 onces per oil change. Another alternative would be to add 1-2 bottles of Redline synthetic oil depending on sump size at each oil change. I would imagine that one bottle of Redline added to 5 or less quarts of your regular oil would be a better way to go then adding 4 onces of cam lube. Some cam lubes use solid EP/AW additives and some in the past even had some additives that were corrosive. Rember that cam lubes are only designed to be in the engine for the first 20 minute of run in then you change the oil and filter.

GM Engine Oil Supplement (EOS) isn't strictly a cam lube. GM recommends a full bottle for break-in and allows 500 miles before they recommend you change the oil. A GM engineer that once visited here also stated that he regularly supplemented the oil in his BBC with GM EOS.
