Hi all,

I was browsing the motor oil shelves at our local Walmart tonight, checking which oil prices have gone up, when I came across the clearance rack. What caught my eye were the two 5 quart jugs of QuakerState Q Power Synthetic motor oil. They were the older single handle, clearish bottle design. Normal price was seventeen something, and they were marked down to 10.00 dollars.

Do you think the oil is safe to use? I checked the foil seals, and they are intact. Had they been the new bottle design with no foil seal, I would wonder if it was still the original oil in the jugs.

So, what do you think? Good deal, or better safe than sorry type of situation.

They will be absolutely fine. I would use synthetic motor oil that was even 10 years old no problem.

The problem is with very old conventional oils. The industry moved from Group I to Group II base oils in the late 1990's. The modern Group II oils are far superior to the old conventionals, so the only thing one might avoid is the old convention oils, as the new ones are so much better.

At $10 per jug. I would be inclined to buy a whole shopping cart of them.

The only reason I wouldn't buy it is if it were a grade I never used. It would have to be a major difference though(ex. if it was 20w-50 when I was looking for 10w30).

DON'T USE THAT OIL. YOUR ENGINE WILL BE SEVERELY DAMAGED. TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T USE IT, SEND IT TO ME.

Just Kidding. I would buy all I could. Actually, I did, I stocked up on that and PP when it was available for $1.99 a quart after rebate. I have Quaker State Synthetic in one of my cars now.

Just hope that it's still there when you get back. At one time Walmart closed out all of their MC 5w-20 due to Ford dealers protesting. I bought 30 quarts @ $0.50 ..but there were several cases I could have picked up in addition (5 more cases)..but didn't bother. I figured 30 quarts was enough. GONE!

Same here. I went to a local PepBoys and found they had qt bottle six packs for under 5 bucks about a year ago. I grabbed 5 or 6 before getting "permission" from the other half to go back and pick up about 5 more boxes. When I got back, they said someone had just come and backed a truck up and got all their clearance oil.

Whats the location??

bobfather99- Hey, it's great to see a fellow Hoosier!

We live by Mooreland, which is about half way between Muncie and Richmond. The Walmart we went to was the Walmart in New Castle, but I'm sorry, I already grabbed the two jugs of Q Power. I have to admit, I'm pumped! It makes me want to go to the two Walmarts in Muncie and see what they have on the clearance.

I resisted the impulse to buy Mothers FX Synwax when our local Walmarts cleared the bottles off the shelves, mainly because I already have several 5-gallon pails full of different waxs and polishes, but I couldn't resist buying the Q Power. It is a good deal.
