I was intrigued as I often am browsing market place about some old (mid 90’s is my guess) Petro Canada snowmobile injection oil available locally. I inherited an old 1989 Arctic Cat Jag 340 that I’m fixing up, I was thinking it would be neat for whatever to reason to use some period correct oil that cost me next to nothing and is sealed (I got 5,1 litre bottles). Of course after purchasing then checking the internet I’m reading it would mostly not be recommended to use now given additive breakdown and deterioration in general.. I opened one bottle it appears brown ish in colour, it hasn’t separated and isnt hazy, however there does seem to be less typical 2 stroke oil smell than I anticipated. Just wanted to get some thoughts on running this oil in an old sled a bit this winter. Thanks in advance!

Nothing wrong with it. It's oil in a sealed container. Give it a good shake and mix up the stuff, then use it. Now, if that was brake fluid, in an open container, say 1/2 full..tight cap....CHUCK IT. Open brake fluid finds ways of absorbing moisture.

Use a modern, full synth. oil in it for less smoke and carbon build up. Not to mention way improved engine protection.
Old bottles are only good for show display and oil for starting camp fires.
I switched to Bel Ray synth. oil in late '70's and haven't looked back using old conventional oils in sleds.
Sled in my avatar is a '85 Manta with a AC 500 motor in it that gets Klotz oil.
