oil for 25 yr old Beaumark snowblower?

Just inherited my dad's old 1983 Beaumark 10hp tecumseh single stage snowblower. The body has been some what well taken care of auger gets greased and belts have been changed regularly but the engine hasn't received the same attention from my dad, usually at the end of each winter season before being put away he just runs the things until all the gas has been burned and just puts it away, the oil from what I know hasn't been changed in years, and I wanted to know if there was a specific 4 cycle oil meant for snowblowers, I was thinking of using just some conventional 5w30 but would a synthetic be o.k in a motor this old?

As of right now the gas tank or fuel line is leaking a bit, the muffler is completely rusted out, but I put some gas in two pulls and she started, idle a bit rough at first but settles down somewhat, maybe should clean the carburetor while i'm at it?

Where it me, I'd put some HDEO in there, run it for a while, like an hour, drain and refill. Do it again.
A dose of carb cleaner might help, as well as a new spark plug.
Does it have points or did it have electonic ignition?

Fix the fuel leak, add a filter to the fuel line.

Factory manual for that engine says 5W-20. Change it annually and it'll run another 25 years. Syn is fine but expensive and not worth it on a machine that runs 25 minutes in freezing temps? These engines have fine carbuerators that DO NOT LIKE gas left in them year to year as the components weren't designed for it... Sta-bil or not. Double check the muffler when buying it as there are several applications for each engine from year to year. There are several on line parts suppliers, but, due to its age I've found dealing locally is cheaper as wrong parts can show up in the little brown trucks. Check the drive belts(2) and get spares anyway.

Most important, remove spark plug, remove shear bolts (2) on auger, and lube the fittings and rotate it on its shaft as this will prevent the dreaded gear box failure if you catch something in the housing.

In addition to some of the advice already given (grease, check belts & fuel system cleaner - Red Line SI-1) I would drain whatever oil's in there immediately. Put in any cheap XW-30, run for 1 hour and drain again. Repeat this until you stop seeing visible metal shavings in the oil.

Then switch to a HDEO oil such as Chevron Delo400 and run it for about 5-6 hours before draining it.

Change seasonally afterward.
