Bought our first house in July this year; should have told the guy to clean out the garage before we took posession - but honestly we've found a few useful items in there that will come in quite handy.

Also found a couple old oil cans on a shelf. The Triumph can cleaned up pretty nice; says SAE 50 on the top. The Sunoco can started to loose it's paint in the process so I stopped and called it good.

Both are API SA/SB oils; any clue how old they are? Going to stick them on a shelf in my workroom.

That's a neat find. Wife's grandpa has a quite a few old cans of Havoline 10w40 in his garage. I've always wanted to ask him if I could have one. And then I see them nestled on there shelf dusty and dirty. It looks like they haven't been moved since 1984 so I dare not disturb their slumber. So I don't even ask if I can have a bottle.

I would love to see a VOA.

Why not snap a pic, and bring it to BITOG show-n-tell...

Back in the early 80's, Dad would buy all of his gas at a Derby station. We had two or three of them in town.

Is that Sunoco can metal or composite/cardboard? Interesting thing about the Sunoco can is that it also has the DX logo on it, which is a precursor to Diamond Shamrock, which is now Valero.

I say ol'chap! Simmer down now. I know the old man and you don't.

Saw a neat old can at the dump by the oil turn-in. SAE 30 was on a label on the cap, the only place where the weight was listed!

I brought him a case of Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale last weekend. I know I could lure him into a deal with some sort of ale!

He'd probably just let me have a can if I asked. You see he has a bar in his garage with semi-naked girls under glass on the bartop and the photos look like they came from the late eighties early nineties. You know big hair. Flourescent neon bikinis. The place has an ambiance of a time not long gone, but a sorta forgotten time. A time for me before internet. And the fact that the old man is still there everyday slowly slurping beer and rantin' about a railroad that he retired from in 1990 that I now work for, well it's kinda like a shrine to me of some sort. Of what sort. I know not. The fatBuddha is replaced by a man who built his own house and spent 30 years working on big 16-cylinder two-stroke diesels. And the alms are now ales. The oil cans are holy I tell ya! I cain't touch 'em yet! I ain't good enough yet!

I will take a picture. Don't tell the monks!
