Cleaning dust from drum brakes

Although not related to oil, I thought I'd pass this tip along because it seems like there are a lot of DIY'ers here. When doing a drum brake job, try hosing the dust off with a garden hose instead of using brake cleaner. I think it works better and it sure is cheaper. Also hose off the inside of the drum. I dry with the leaf blower before reassembly.

i like brake cleaner cause i dont really have to clean up...and it gets greesy stuff off...hehe that thing has many uses including oil on ur driveway...but yea u got a good tip...
 
I agree, but like dd91 I'd use brake cleaner. That stuff will take the spots off a dog. FYI don't blow out drums with compressed air, very bad for your lungs.
