Have purchased a really nice battery powered Husqvarna hedge trimmer that I've used for the first time. Wanted to know what others have used for cleaning sap/resin and debris from the cutters. Then a good post clean lube. Don't use them too often, but want something to care for it vs. nothing like I did on my basically disposable corded Black and Decker trimmers.

Once a year I take the blades apart (separate them), clean them with WD-40 (it makes a good cleaning solvent), apply a #2 grease with a tackifier agent to the internal runner slots, then reassemble.

I just have a cheap electric one, but I take care of it.

1. When done using, I spray it down with Simple green. Let it soak for half hour. Wipe it down really well.
2. Spray it down with WD-40. Pull trigger. Wipe it down really well.
3. I use the spray that has white lithium grease in it. Pull trigger a few times. Wipe it down to remove excess grease.

Seems to work pretty good. Had this thing like 12 years and still works great.

I do spray the cutters with WD-40 after use, which eliminates most of the gunk. However, there is some pretty tenacious stuff that resists the WD-40 and remains on them. Short of disassembling the blades, I may consider some sort of bug and tar remover type cleaner or an adhesive remover like 3M General Purpose. I've heard of folks using bar and chain lube and also canola oil with good results for the lube.

Lately, I have used canola oil on my trimmer as I had some that was expired and I also saw it recommended on a landscaping site. It seems to work fine.

We've had an el cheapo corded Black & Decker for the past 30 years. It gets sharpened about once a year, and gets lubed with whatever oil concoction that's in the pump oil can.

If it gets sticky at some point, I take it apart and clean it, but otherwise just use it and spray fluid film on it after each use.

I use WD-40 after trimming "sticky" bushes.

Fluid film for lube usually before storing.. says right on the can for hedgetrimmers..
I'd imagine krown or similar would be fine as well.. but I just use FF now so there is no lube mixing.
