Cleaned up my old John Deere LA110

The key to longevity on these lawn tractors is maintenance and keeping them dry...
Yeah...clearly I didn't do that with mine. Whenever I am forced to replace my rusty mower, my new machine will likely outlast me because it will always be garaged and well cared for.

Below are pics of the original air filter from the LA110, never changed since 2007. It is surprisingly clean for its age. At my old place where I did all the mowing with this machine, it was not very dusty, so that helped.

FWIW @wavinwayne you should be able to find the JD yellow at most farm stores like Farm & Fleet or TSC. Drop the deck and wire brush the rust off and paint it. I touch my deck up every year when it's off for blade sharpening. I have a 2002 LT150 that is still kicking. It blows some snow in these mild winters in Iowa lately and cuts, aerates and pulls a dump trailer all summer.

Just my $0.02

I'm not going to waste money painting the rust bucket of a deck. I'm looking at getting a new or lightly used deck. After a close inspection, mine is too far gone to salvage. I don't think I'm going to try to mow with it for safety reasons. I have back up plans for getting the grass cut at the new place in the interim. I'm also planning to take the fender deck off and get it re-painted at a local powder coating shop. Once the project is complete I'll post pics. I could probably find a lightly used similar John Deere for less that what it'll cost me to fix mine, but it'll be good for me to have a project.

Yeah definitely a better idea to try and find a better deck to swap on instead of painting.

For what it's worth a lot of those 100 series decks have very similar if not the same mounting as long as the deck size is the same. So any LA tractor or even L with the same size should fit even if it isn't necessarily an LA110.

I'm 99% sure I'm going to get a new one from John Deere. Doesn't necessarily make the best financial sense, but it'll be alright. It'll look a little different too, because John Deere has gone to green decks now instead of yellow.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Probably a pain trying to find a used one that isn't rusted or tweaked from people hitting stuff.

No idea, but with enough time, fabrication, and determination, I imagine it's possible. That said, I won't be attempting it.
I would avoid doing this as well. FWIW, think of it this way... These decks are engineered with certain size pulley's with certain size HP engines to get the correct amount of blade speed so the mower works correctly. If you mess with that you run the risk of the mower not functioning correctly. I'd find your same deck on Craigslist or FB Marketplace and move on.
