I heard through the grape vine that Frank has been getting static over my post concerning my use of Auto-RX. Some of you must not have read both posts.
I want to get one thing straight Auto-RX DID NOT
HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ROD KNOCK THAT STARTED IN MY 1987 283,700 mile Volvo 4 cylinder Turbo.
If you had read my posts concerning my use of AUTO-RX I made NO references to AUTO-RX causing any problems what so ever in the motor. The first post I had nothing but praise for the improvements in performance. I also stated that I drive the car like I stole it. I also stated in the second post that I had already made arrangements and deals with my dealer to replace the motor back in December. That was six months before I even bought the Auto-RX. The motor already was showing problems way before I used the Auto-RX.
Back in December I knew within a year I was going to be replacing the motor.
It had poor idle, oil usage, blow by, piston slap and when you hit the Turbo it would blow out a large cloud of black smoke through the tail pipe. Yes I did change the oil every 3000 miles with dino BUT lets get it straight I was very hard on the car and it's engine. I bought the Auto-Rx hoping that it would solve some of the problems. It did but what one poster and I came to the conclusion was that the Auto-RX did it's job and the old worn out motor couldn't handle the extra power. You see my engine has a SAAB APC System on it. With this boost controller I raised the power from a factory 7.5 psi (160HP) to 14.5 psi which brought the power up into the 215 to 220 HP range. With the blow by I was probably only making in the 190 HP range. Once the rings were seating and the crud in the engine was removed the power jumped up quickly and the motor (283,700 miles) could not take it. How many of your engines would still be running with 95 HP per liter running through them at 283,700 miles. Or for you that don't do metric that's works out to 1.57 HP per cubic inch. If I had left the boost at factory levels, that engine would still be running today with little problems. Auto-RX did not cause the early demise of my motor.
