Car is my moms 08 civic 1.8L. Looking for a filter on the weekend since the honda shop isn't open. Advance has purolator pure one filters on sale for 5 bucks a piece. Is this a decent filter for the 1.8L using 5w20?

Or is there a better one I should look into?

Thanks

Yep, that filter will work great.

Also, AAP has Valvoline NextGen and Driveworks filter for $20. Upgrade to a PureOne for a few bucks more. Then get a $20 rebate, which you can submit online easily!!

IMO....PureOne's might be the best mid-tier filter available. Have used them for over four years now....and never a problem or issue.

PureOne's, IMO, can do OCI's 7500 miles easily.

The Pure One is a good option. I personally use high quality oil filters which are bought on sale and they come out to be roughly $6-7 bucks each and offer better oil filtration.

In the 06-12 Civics, you can use a filter like Mobil 1, K&N or Bosch D+ for 2x oil change intervals totaling 15,000 miles (which is what the filters are rated for). In the end, it comes out cheaper and your engine benefits from the better filtration.

Just my opinion and how i do things with my 07 Civic EX.

+1 Buy at least two on the AAP sale and use with confidence. You'll be hard pressed to find a better filter for $5. And it will do an MM oci or 1year max as Honda recommended. I've run them that long in 3.0L Accord, and this thread shows the PL14610 I ran ~7k/1year.

you can also use the 14612 which is a little taller therefore perhaps more media coverage.

Buy the least expensive oil/filter combo you can find and drive the car for 500K miles (or more).

I see that you live in Wisconsin. I think that there are Farm and Fleet stores in your area. Right now, F+F has Mobil 5000 for $2.00 per quart, Purolator Classics for $2.50 (you can get a 1.50 rebate for two of them, lowering your net price to $1.00) and Pureones for $5.00 (3.50 after rebate, limit of two). I think that your 1.8 holds 4 quarts; $9.00 for an oil change is really good these days. Just my 2 cents.

The Purolator P1 filters better than either of the two available Honda filters. In fact, it has the best performance-to-cost ratio of any oil filter -- even when it's NOT on sale.
